    1. New Hampshire Caswell Help
    2. Mark Caswell
    3. I found the following passage in the Caswell Encyclopedia and was hoping to find a tie in with my own Rye/Isle of Shoals Caswell line. ROBERT CASWELL (CASSELL/CASTELL), Pequot Soldier of Ipswich, 1637: accompanied infamous Rev. Mr. Stephen Batchelder to Hampton, NH, first settler w/other marr. men. 1639: received land grant, Hampton, Rockingham Co, NH, (BOU 867:151) (1637, list #391a, Gen. Dict. of ME & NH, by Sybil Noyes, 974.D2n, SLC) (Ht. of Hampton, NH, 1638-1892, v.I, by Joseph Dow, 974.26/H3,H2d, SLC) The earliest I have been able to take my family back is Robert (Caswell)Kerswell b. abt 1690 d. Bef 1731. Is there any possible link here?? I have been told that he did not settle in Hampton but don't know where he went. Does anyone have any information regarding Ipswich, MA around that time period? Any help or leads you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Mark H. Caswell

    1. Noah MOULTON/Patience LOCKE
    2. wprokasy
    3. Cousins and Colleagues... I've encountered some conflicting information on which I'd greatly appreciate your help. William and Hannah (Knowles) Locke had born to them Patience Locke (1), 1710-1711. Jonathan and Sarah (Haines) Locke had born to them Patience Locke (2), February 10, 1729/30. Daniel and Mary (Unknown) Moulton had born to them Noah Moulton (1), February 23, 1704/05. Daniel and Phebe (Philbrick) Moulton had born to them Noah Moulton (2), November 14, 1726. Dow (Hist. Hampton, p. 865), Locke (Hist. Gen. Of Captain Locke, p. 14) and Parsons (Hist. Of Rye, p. 421) report that Patience (1) married Noah Moulton on November 16, 1749. Locke (p. 28) prefers to believe that this Noah is Noah (1) and not Noah (2); Parsons (p. 464) reports him as Noah (2); and Dow reports him as Noah (1). In contrast Austin (Moulton Family, p. AFDBE) has Noah (2) marrying Patience (2), but shows no marriage for Noah (1). Both Austin (p. AFDBE) and Locke (p. 28) list children for Noah and Patience, born over a range of 1751 to beyond 1763, a fact which casts doubt on this Patience being Patience (1). This is confounded further when Locke (p. 50) reports that Patience (2) married Benjamin Woodbridge, son of Benjamin and Mary (Osgood) Woodbridge. Though he also states that this couple had a daughter, Patience, in Andover, there is no record of this in the Andover VRs. He states that they moved to Milford, NH. My inclination is toward the Austin report as the more credible, but that does conflict with Dow, and it raises questions, too, about the Locke-Woodbridge marriage reported by Locke. However, there is clearly a lack of good documentation, and I seek your help with whatever information you may have. Thanks. Bill -- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ William F. 3. Sorry that some of you will see this message several times but I need to cover the area that may have an answer to my problem I am looking for the town where Leavitt was born: Leavitt C. Sherburne born 24 Nov 1784 "in NH" Leavitt was in Eastport, Maine sometime between 1795-1815. He married Lucretia Handy/Handi from St. Andrews,NB,Canada, on 20 Oct 1816. Leavitt and Lucretia lived and died in Eastport,Maine. Leavitt died March 1848 and Lucretia , June 1891 Suspect that he may have been from southern NH as we have other families from southern NH who migrated to northern Maine during this time frame. Actually he could be from any where in NH. Any help in solving this riddle would be appreciated. Cynthia

I think he may be the father of my Margaret Heath who was born in Plaistow before 1765. She married Tristram Ordway in 1786 in Plaistow. Does anyone have any information on this family? Is Margaret a daughter? I sure would appreciate any information anyone could give me. Brenda

    1. Bridget (_____) (Huggins) Clifford of Hampton
    2. melinde sanborn
    3. Hi Clark and List, Regarding the message about the possible identity of Bridget, wife of John Huggins of Hampton, her nine children were born between approximately 1640 and 1660. Even though her stated ages in various depositions, and her age at death, give possible birth years anywhere from 1609-1617, and she did depose about Henry Green's daughter in 1659 in the Essex Quarterly Court, it seems unlikely that she would not have had any children until she was 29, and then have had them until she was 49. Not impossible, of course, just not the usual thing. She also had no children named Henry or Joan, which one might expect if she was the daughter of such a couple. It should be investigated further by looking at the PRs and BTs for that place in Warwickshire, and also searching for any will or administration for the purported parents. If that is inconclusive, a search of the manorial court records there is in order. Best wishes, George Sanborn

    1. Bridget (____) (HUGGINS) CLIFFORD of Hampton
    2. Clark Bagnall
    3. I have just received some undocumented statements concerning Briget wife of 1) John HUGGINS and 2) John CLIFFORD of Hampton. See Genealogical Dictionary of Maine & NH. According to this new material Bridget was bptized at Tanworth, Warwick, on 21 Apr 1611, daughter of Henry and Joan (GROVES) GREEN. There was a Henry GREEN in Hampton who was connected with the PERKINS family in some way. Since the latter were from Warwickshire, this would suggest the Henry's origins might be found there also. Is anyone on the list aware of any new DOCUMENTED research into either the GREEN or PERKINS family or of any connection between Briget and these families? Or, to broaden the scope of my question, has anyone verified the connections between the Hampton branch of the PERKINS family and the Ipswich, MA branch as suggested by Walter Goodwin Davis? Is the relationship of the brothers Isaac and Abraham to the Ipswich clan known? Has anyone seen any published articles that would show their relationship to Henry GREEN? Thanks, Clark Bagnall

    1. Rockingham County Volunteers Needed
    2. Dick Marston
    3. I have just completed what I hope you'll find an improvement of the organization of the content of the Rockingham County GenWeb Home Page (URL below). Now, there is not only a "jump-to" index of the towns for which we have volunteers, but there is now an index for the family genealogy volunteers as well. We still need volunteers for the followiwng towns: Auburn, Brentwood, Candia, Chester, Deerfield, Derry, East Kingston, Fremont, Greenland, Kensington, New Castle, Newfields, Newmarket, Newton, North Hampton, Stratham. If you live in or have a book featuring the history, vital statistics, or family genealogies in any of these towns, please consider adding your name and email address as a look-up volunteer for that town. Duplicate volunteers are welcome. That lessens the load on any one person, and it provides an alternate contact when one or more of the volunteers can't be reached for any reason. The same holds true for the family genealogies. Take a look at the list and compare it against your own library. If you can and are willing to add a book, your help will be sincerely appreciated. Just say the word (to me personally, please, NOT to this mail list), and I will add you to our growing list of volunteers.
