I am looking for information on Rev. William Morrison and his family. I know that he was born in Scotland and moved with his wife Jane/Jean to Londonderry, NH to become the ordained pastor of the West Parish Church. He arrived in Londonderry in 1783 and died there in 1818. I found the following reference regarding him and am interested to know if anyone knows of the autobiographical source that this refers to. "History of Henniker, N.H.", Cogswell, Leander W. Republican Press Association, 1880. Concord, CT. pg 805. Rev. William Morrison, D.D., pastor of the West Parish in Londonderry thirty-five years was born about 1748 in the town of Auchlinnes, Parish of Comrie, Perthshire, Scotland. According to his autobiographical sketch, he was early apprenticed to a tailor of a "very exemplary and religious character," with whom he remained several years. In 1766 he came to a "place sixty miles up the Hudson river, in N. Y.," and worked at his trade till he earned the money that defrayed the expense of his education. He studied divinity with the Rev. Robert Annan, of Philadelphia, was settled in Londonderry, Feb. 12, 1783, and died there March 9, 1818. His large family of eleven children are all dead, and but few, if any, descendants are living. No minister ever more deserved or enjoyed the love and respect of a parish that did Dr. Morrison. Thanks, Penne Patterson penne@dallas.net Penne Patterson penne@dallas.net
Cherryl, As a joint project, The N.H. Society of Genealogists and The N.H. Old Graveyard Association have a web site of NH cemeteries and graveyards. It is part of NHSOG's web site: http://www.tiac.net/users/nhsog/ Click on "N.H. Old Graveyard Association database" then click on "NHOGA Master Burial Site Listing". The listings are organized by town. There are only five cemeteries listed in Newton. Willow Grove is the only one listed on Whittier St. Hope this helps. The first cemetery was on Whittier Rd, let me back up, I believe we took a left off of 125? onto Whittier Rd and it was about 1/8-1/4 of a mile down on the left side of the road. The next one was further down on Whittier Rd.? (about 3/4-1 mile - the road forked and we kept to the right) it was also on the left side of the road. I asked my aunt who has a plot in the second cemetery if she knew the name of the cemetery but she did not know it. She had a deed for my grandmother's plot but it only had the 'Town of Newton' on it. Any help would be appreciated. Also, does anyone know if there is a book available on the cemeteries of Newton? Thanks, Cherryl

My husband is a descent of Sarah Moulton (1656-1699) and Jonathan Haines. They were married 12-30-1674 in Hampton, Rockingham, NH, but moved later to Haverhill, Essex, MA. My husband is descended through their daughter Ruth Haines\Haynes born 2-7-1691 in Haverhill, MA. Ruth is the only child that I have documented of Sarah and Jonathan Haines\Haynes. Does anyone out there have a list of the siblings of Ruth Haines? Thanks in advance. Susan -- Susan C. Hi everyone! We found a great way to earn a Dell Computer (almost free!) and make some extra money to help us fund our research. We want to share the info with anyone who is interested. Please e-mail us privately at: jtoellner@ttlc.net Jean & Marc
Hi all- I thought I'd post my collateral lines - it's been awhile. I'm looking for the parents of Polly (Mary) STEWART, b. 21 Feb 1790 in Kingston. She married William Kimball and ended up in Vienna, ME. Another Kimball wife was William's mother, Dorothy TAYLOR. I know next to nothing about her. She was probably born around 1745 and died 7 Sep 1817. She married John Kimball of Poplin, so I'm hoping that's where she was from. Can you tell I'm grasping at straws? The others are in the ELKINS line. Does anyone have proof that the parents of Elizabeth TOWLE (b. 6 Jan 1770 in Danville) were James Towle and Abigail Colbey? I need her siblings, too, if she had any. Elizabeth m. Jeremiah Elkins. Jeremiah's mother, Ann BROWN was the daughter of Abraham Brown, but I don't know her mother. Ann was born 23 Nov 1717, but I'm not sure where - Hampton, maybe? She m. Capt. Thomas Elkins. The last of my mystery women is Mary SLEEPER (I love that name!). Mary was the daughter of Thomas Sleeper, but I don't have any dates, other than her marriage to Gershom Elkins on 15 May 1667. Any dates, places, siblings, etc. on these ladies would be wonderful! Thanks. Karen in California klkimball@aol.com
Sorry, folks! In the past the robot computer at RootsWeb has successfully intercepted and rejected commercial spams to all on the list except me. Perhaps that one got by because the person who sent it was clever enough to join the list first. That might have made the difference. Steps have been taken to prevent any repeat by him and/or her. -- Dick Marston, Owner: NHMERRIM, NHROCKIN and MARSTON mail lists;

Looking for information on Jonathan SMITH b. ca 1793/94 NH (1850 Ritchie Co. VA/WV Census) m. Rachel (Unknown). Had a daughter Elizabeth Gilmore SMITH b. 1831 Maine, m. Joseph STUART. I suspect that there is a possibility that Jonathan is the s/o Peter & Hannah (SANBORN) SMITH but have found no documentation up to this point. Attention: Kevin I have the W.H. Jones' "William Tilton" book and excerpts from earlier publications. Sally Clough is not listed in index, however there are half dozen Daniels that might be yours. Do you have more I go on? Have you tried the Clough online database? http://www.capital.net/~bonnie I will be happy to look up any additional Tilton or Clough information from my sources. My Clough source has been the online database. <Would anyone be researching the Tilton Family ? I would like to know if Daniel Tilton and Sallie Clough had children named Nathan B. , Mary and Lucy C. They were married about 1816 . Daniel was the son of Nathan Tilton and Susanna Gale m 1780> I don't have the information you requested, I am afraid, as my line descends from Daniel's brother Stephen. Nathan and Susanna had 10 children. I am interested in your Sally Clough. Is she the daughter of Thomas CLOUGH and Lydia FOREST? My Sally CLOUGH was b. Northfield NH 1791 and d. Laconia Dec 4 1849 (?). She was married to Gawn Armour GORRELL abt. 1808/1809. I have a record that after Gawn's death, she married again twice. If she is your Sally, the connection would be interesting as Sally's grandson Horace Whicher GORRELL married Emma Susan TILTON, your Daniel Tilton's great niece (which would be Sally's step-great niece through her marriage to Daniel)!

John "The Mariner" Knowles d in Hampton 1705. Trying to prove his ancestry has been tediously unsuccessful despite the concerted efforts of more people than I can even imagine. Two of John & Jemima Knowles' children m into the DRAKE & LOCKE families. I am hoping that someone researching DRAKE and LOCKE connections to this KNOWLES line may have unearthed some clues about John: 1. Deacon William Locke s/o Capt John Locke & Elizabeth Berry m Hannah Knowles on 23 Nov 1699 in Rye; 11 ch b between 1702-1724. 2. Robert Drake s/o Abraham Drake & Jane ? m Sarah Knowles on 19 Oct 1716; 2 ch (that I know of) Robert b 1719 and Hannah b 1723. If those of you who research these other two families have any morsels you'd care to throw my way, I'd be grateful for them. Appreciatively, Ellen Knowles Bisson mailto:thebissons@worldnet.att.net

A word from our sponsor that should be of interest to all of us. RootsWeb has revised its home page to make access to its several resources easier. For those odf you with access to the web (and those who don't, should) check it out. Here is an edited version of the announcement from RootsWeb which I received today. (Btw, the Surname Resources pages are fine, but it's the MAIN PAGE that has been greatly revised to make it more helpful.) ** ROOTSWEB PUTS IT TOGETHER. Have you ever wished you could look up *everything* at RootsWeb that relates to a particular surname? Now you can! Click on the new option SURNAME RESOURCES at RootsWeb's main page <http://www.rootsweb.com/> or go directly to: <http://resources.rootsweb.com/surnames/>. Click on the letter of the alphabet for the surname of interest, and then select it from the list that appears. This will take you to a "surname resource cluster," where you can search for your surname in numerous databases. For example, using BANKSTON you would find: <http://resources.rootsweb.com/surnames/b/a/BANKSTON/>, where you could search "B" WEB SITES, the OBITUARY DAILY TIMES, or: o The ROOTSWEB SURNAME LIST (RSL). RSL search options are by surname, Soundex, or Metaphone (the latter two are "sounds- like" matches). You can search for updates from the past two months, last month, last week, or for any mention. o TRANSCRIPTION PROJECTS. You might check to see if your immigrant ancestors' names are listed at the Immigrant Ship Transcribers Guild (ISTG). o PRIMARY RECORDS AT ROOTSWEB (from USGenWeb Archives and RootsWeb Searchable Databases). o GENERAL LINKS AND SEARCH ENGINES. There are three options. o ROOTSLINK link registry. You can add a new link also. o SEEKER search engine, which returns surname matches from Web pages -- there is much "hidden genealogy" that this search will help you find. o SURNAME HELPER search engine finds queries and surname registrations posted at various genealogically-related sites on the Web, with participating sites including many USGenWeb and WorldGenWeb sites. All GenConnect boards are indexed in Surname Helper. o MAILING LISTS. Descriptions of lists that relate to this surname, subscription instructions, and links to the archives so you can search or browse past postings. o GENCONNECT. Click on GLOBAL SURNAME SEARCH to find queries that mention the surname of interest that are posted in connection with any county, state, or country in the world. Or click an icon for one of the seven automated boards that together make up a "suite" of boards available for surnames and localities (Queries, Bible records, Biographies, Deeds, Obituaries, Pensions, and Wills). RootsWeb hopes that putting these links under one SURNAME RESOURCES roof will help everyone find all the buried treasure. ** -- Dick Marston Owner: NHMERRIM, NHROCKIN and MARSTON mail lists.
I have started a new List---Connecticut River Valley: CT-River-Valley-L@rootsweb.com To subscribe: just put "subscribe" (without the quotes) in message area (email) Ct-River-Valley-L-request@rootsweb.com or (digest) Ct-River-Valley-D-request@rootsweb.com The Connecticut River Valley was the starting point for migrations to Vermont and NH and onward to NY and western states.
