Does anyone have these Dows in their line? I have been stuck on them for quite a while and none of this has reliable sources. Susan Descendants of Simon Dow Generation No. 1 1. SIMON4 DOW (AMASSA3, AMASSA2, DAVID1) was born 22 Mar 1755 in Kingston, New Hampshire. Child of SIMON DOW is: i. NANCY5 DOW, b. 1773 (Source: DAR Records.); d. Jun 1850, Canton, New York (Source: Clan MacBean Records); m. CAPT. JOSEPH BEAN, 10 Jun 1797, Wheelock, VT (Source: Clan MacBean Records). Notes for CAPT. JOSEPH BEAN: The marriage of Capt. Joseph Bean and Nancy Dow is the first marriage recorded in Wheelock. They lived at Wheelock until all of their children were born then moved to Durham, Quebec. Joseph was a captain in the militia.
Susan, There's about a dozen DOWS with spouses and children, listed in "Genealogical Dictionary of Maine and New Hampshire". E-mail me if you'd like the info. Milli Gould

I'm looking for the obituary of FOSTER, MARILYN who was born on April 22, 1928 and died in Derry on Feb. 3, 1996. I didn't see anyone who looked up obits in that area on the lookup list. Do you know of anyone who might do this for me? If not, does any one know if there is a Derry paper, or where the closest paper is that I might get on inter-library loan to check? Hello list, Reading about an ancestor's will, the abbreciation "viz" is there. Would someone kindly tell me what it means? Thanks! Milli Gould
Is anyone on this list researching the TOWLES surname? Esther Towle (1799-1862) was the third wife of my gg-grandfather, Josiah Forsaith/Forsyth. I have never been able to find any of her ancestors or why the spelling of the Forsaith name for this branch of the family was changed to Forsyth. Their children removed to Dixon, Illinois, but I do not know if the parents ever went there. I believe that she is buried in Chester, NH. Ralph Forsaith..........callcats@sover.net
Hello, I'm new to this list. I would like to have some help please. I am looking for a marriage record for the above-listed people. They were married in 1827. Elizabeth was born in Portsmouth, NH. Her family later lived in Nottingham. I'm not sure where the wedding would have taken place. Both parties were Roman Catholic, I think. Her parents were John LUCY and Lydia DAVIS. They were born in Nottingham. James DUNN was born in Ireland somewhere. Their first child, John H., was born in Providence RI. Perhaps the marriage took place there. This family then moved to Toronto, back to Ohio and finally settled in Muscatine, Iowa. I would appreciate any lookups anyone can do. If a record is found, and there is a film number available, I would be glad to order that. I really appreciate your help. I'm trying to confirm their parents' names. Any other suggestions are always welcome. Pat
Pamela, I have four generations back from Henry DOW and Hannah PAGE. I can send you a text file as an attachment if you'd like to see what I have. Some of it is even sourced! Thank you for the information that Isaac is the son of Simon. I knew about him because of Charity. Both of her parents are cousins. I didn't even know Simon had a second wife. Simon and his first wife Sarah were my 8th great-grandparents. I have a couple other kids for Simon and Sarah, too. Ann-Marie
Hello friends! I am looking for the records from the Universalist Church in Portsmouth, NH. These records (as recorded by the WPA in 1937) include 4 volumes 1773-1924 of marriages, baptisms, members, deaths and funerals. They are not at South Church, the Portsmouth Athenaeum, nor the NH Historical Society (still waiting to hear back from the Portsmouth Historical Society for some months). Rumors have it they may have either 1) perished in a church fire ca. 1940-50 or 2) Dumped in the harbor when the government ran out of money for the WPA workers). Anyone have any ideas? I would be most appreciative. Many thanks, Sally Neale
Help: Any information is appreciated. I am trying to locate My wife Arlene Montgomery Garrett's great great grandfather Robert Montgomery, where born, b: 1826 We would also like to learn who Robert's parents/siblings were. 1 Robert Montgomery b: February 1826 in New Hampshire . + Eliza Ann Flint b: November 16, 1834 in Massachusetts I have reason to believe Robert was born in Rockingham Co. probably Deery, New Hampshire. I live in western Kansas & can't travel great distances, because of bad health, I had to quit farming at the age of 48 in 1993. Since then I have been trying to put our family histories together for our children. It helps keep my mind of farming, my first love. But genealogy is quite infectious & I have caught the genealogy bug bad. ha! Any look ups or help of any kind would be very much appreciated. Gayle M. Garrett <garr@ruraltel.net>

Several people have asked me on my Conn River Valley list to tell them where to get good maps for doing research on the road. We just returned from a long 2 week search in the vast state of Maine and the map we used was : MAINE ATLAS and GAZETTEER put out by DeLorme, and it is usually available in bookstores . The maps shows detail of all the roads whether they are still in use or not.....and it also shows where towns existed and no longer do !! if you cannot find this atlas, write to: DeLorme P.O. Box 298 Yarmouth,Maine 04096 http://www.delorme.com tel: 207.846.7000 - ------------------------------------------------------------------ There is another company that we like to use and it's ARROW out of Bridgewater,Mass. They have street atlas for every county in Mass and best yet--it shows location of cemeteries whether it's still being used or not. I have seen this company's (Arrow) atlas in New Hampshire and Vermont......now they probably do have most of New England but outside of New England, I dont know but you can write or call them to find out,. The average cost of these maps is $12..but it's worth the price They are spiral backed so you can fold them back , each page gives detail of every town in the county that the atlas covers( for example, you get Metro Worcester/ Central Mass....it shows 85 communities, individual community map, etc) These Arrow atlas are readily availble in any good bookstore, Staples(office supplies). Most of the stores carry ARROW map for their areas only . If you need a map out of your area or you just cannot find these ARROW Street Atlas' in your area, contact: Langenscheidt Publishing Group ARROW Maps 50 Scotland Blvd Bridgewater,Mass. 02324 teL: 508-279-1177 Cynthia Listowner ConnRiver Valley
