    3. Dan, Thornton's Ferry is one of the villages that make up the town of Merrimack NH. It used to have it's own post office but all the village offices have been consolidated into one now. Thornton's Ferry was named for Matthew Thornton, signer of the Declaration of Independence, who owned a ferry in that section of town. The reference to Litchfield might be because Litchfield and Merrimack were one town prior to 1746. At that time Merrimack was Litchfield West (West of the Merrimack River). I may have some information on the Stevens family. I'll get back to you later tonight, have to go to work now.
