Does anyone out there have a history and / or vital records, etc. for Litchfield and Merrimack NH? I am looking for info on Jonathan and Ephraim POWERS. They both appear on Litchfield NH tax lists from 1734 to 1746. Then, in March 1746, part of Litchfield became Merrimack. Jonathan was elected Field Driver for the town at the first Merrimack town meeting on 4 Mar 1746 and Moderator of town meetings in 1747. Ephraim was Tythingman for Merrimack in 1746 and 1754 and Constable in 1750 and 1751. I believe that Jonathan was the son of Isaac and Mary (POULTER) (WINSHIP) POWERS. This Jonathan was born in 1704 in Littleton MA and married Elizabeth KIDDER in 1725. Jonathan and Elizabeth had children recorded in Littleton MA up to 1736. Then there is a gap until, in 1748, a son named John was recorded in the Dunstable NH records as "son of Jonathan and Elizabeth POWERS." Litchfield was originally part of Dunstable, as was Merrimack. Both maintained close ties with the Dunstable, so I don't think it is unusual that at least one of their children was recorded on Dunstable records. An Esther POWERS was "born at Merrimack N.H. Decr. 20, 1745" and married Jonathan CARTER, according to their family bible. They lived in Hollis NH and had, among others, children named Isaac Powers CARTER and Betty Kidder CARTER. It certainly seems to indicate that Esther was the daughter of Jonathan and Elizabeth (KIDDER) POWERS. Were other children born in Litchfield or Merrimack NH? Where did Jonathan and Elizabeth die, and when? I believe that Ephraim was married to Jonathan's sister Lucy, and was born in 1705 to William and Mary (BAUK) POWERS. Did he have any children born in Litchfield or Merrimack? Where and when did they die? I welcome any input on this. Thanks. Vickie Elam White
