Hi Linda, Cogswell's Henniker Town History (which is known to have errors) lists on page 639: " Charles Knott, son of Robert and Izannah Knott, was b. in Boston April 7, 1828; printer by trade; md., Dec 2, 1850, Eliza Jane Flanders, of this town, who d. July 18, 1862; and he md., second wife, Dec 10, 1865, Ann R. Rollins, who d. April 22, 1878. He d. 1878. Children b. here, save the first one." Pg. 640 "Robert Moore, b. Nov. 11, 1851. Elizabeth H., b. June 29, 1854; md. Thomas Howlett, Bradford. Georgie A., b. Sept. 30, 1855. Thomas, b. Sept 29, 1857. Susie J., b. May 7, 1860 Mary J., b. April 20, 1862; d. Sept. 30, 1862. By second wife. Clemmie M., b. July 2, 1869." >From an index of Historic Cemeteries of Henniker I have Eliza J Knott, 1862 bur. in the Old or Center Cemetery. No other Knotts are buried in the Historic Cemeteries, which probably means that the others are buried in the New Cemetery which is not included in the index. The theory I would want to disprove is that Robert Moore was b. in Weare, whose records are not reliably found at NHVR. That he married 1st Julia and 2nd Mary. Have you checked for a death or divorce of Julia Knott before 1881 perhaps in Henniker or Francestown? I volunteer at NHVR once a month. I would not trust the marriage record statement of first marriage. The state records are really not primary records as they were submitted by town clerks around 1903. They are known to contain transcription errors. Also the town clerk of Manchester, where the possible second marriage took place, would only have Robert's word for which number of marriage this was. That is assuming there really was a record of the number of marriage at the time. I have seen instances where I know the original record does not actually record the number for the birth order of children. Yet the NHVR will say 1st or 2nd child. The clerk appears to have based that on the number of births recorded in their town to that couple. So 1st child could be 5th child when 4 children were born previously in another town. NH Vital Record office has a listing of each town that indicates what record books were supplied to them and what the disposition of those books were. I have not looked at Weare's data on this listing. Have you checked the Town History books for Weare or Francestown? I looked in the Henniker Hist. for Noyes and Flanders. I found Eliza who m. Charles Knott listed as dau of Jonathan Flanders and Amy Wells (who are my husband's ancestors through son Elijah P). So I checked my photo copy of the Flanders family from the Weare Hist. and find Jane who m Charles Knott dau of Jonathan Flanders and Amy Wells. So I checked for what VR's I had found at NHVR on his Flanders and I have Jonathan's birth from Weare in 1793 but no birth for Elijah P. The records just weren't kept well, there were no requirements or standards. The Henniker Historical Society has the records of Francis Childs (he was very accurate) who researched many Henniker families. He corrected much of what is found in the Cogswell's History of Henniker. I have a copy of his work on the Flanders family and under Eliza Jane he says see Knott's genealogy. It would be worth your while to request a copy of that work from the Henniker Historical society. Here are some contact numbers that may help you to further investigate. BUREAU OF VITAL RECORDS 6 HAZEN DRIVE CONCORD, NH 03301-6527 (see what the listing in the research room indicates about Weare's records) Henniker Historical Society 603.428.6267 (for burial/death info on Julia and Child's Knott info) PO box 674 Henniker, NH 03242 Well, it is late and I have rambled on. I didn't know I would find a connection and would have sent this privately, except I thought some of the VR info might be of interest to others. Hope it is helpful, Sherry
