    3. Hi Diane and All, I have searched the History of Washington, Hillsboro and Windsor, NH as well as neighboring Antrim, NH and found precious little. The History of Hillsborough, Vol. 1 pg. 281 lists "Ford, George A. Priv. Co. G: b. in Hillsboro; res. in Hillsboro; age 18; enl. Aug 11 1862; must. in Aug 14 1862 must. out June 10, 1865." This is under the Roll of the Ninth Regiment Volunteer Infantry and briefly gives the battles they fought in. The Chapman family was of Windsor and I have found very little on them. A Helen M. Chapman "of Windsor" married a brother of my Blanchard ancestors of Washington in 1858. The History of Hillsborough has a few references to the family scattered through Vol. 2 as they married other Hillsboro families. Nothing ties into your info. I just looked at Windsor in the History of Hillsboro County and found quite a bit about the service that the Chapman men did to the town but no genealogy and no mention of childless couples or adoption. The NH State Hospital in Concord has primarily served as a psychiatric facility, though I have read accounts of TB victims going there for treatment where they eventually died. I do not know if it ever served any other purposes or not. It is still there where many of the old buildings had fallen into disrepair. The State has now began to restore them, and I work in one of them. I do not believe patients were ever buried on the grounds, certainly there are no cemeteries there now. Perhaps Emma was buried in Concord elsewhere. Good luck in your search, Sherry -----Original Message----- From: Diane Stephens [SMTP:dstephens@webzone.net] Sent: Monday, September 06, 1999 1:25 AM To: NHHILLSB-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [NHHILLSB] Fords, Barretts, & Chapmans I'm looking for info on William C. FORD, his wife Sarah Ann ORNE, and their children George Albert FORD and Emma FORD. William and Sarah married in Washington, Sullivan Co., NH on July 1, 1840. I don't have birthdates or parentage on William or Sarah. William was supposedly a medical doctor and Sarah supposedly an ordained Methodist preacher (I didn't know they ordained women then?). George was born April 30, 1845 in Hillsboro, Hillsborough Co., NH. Emma was born about 1842. She evidently married a BARRETT b/c she died as Emma BARRETT in NH State Hospital on Jan 25, 1921. (By the way where is this hospital & what type would it be? She was supposedly buried there.) As the story goes, Emma and George were both orphaned at a young age and were being raised by a grandmother, whose surname might have been FORD or MUGFORD. By about 1852, she also had died and Emma & George were "adopted" by a family named CHAPMAN. At that time, they had no children, but did go on later to adopt two more. Thanks for any help. ==== NHHILLSB Mailing List ==== Don't forget to post your Hillsboro Co. NH queries at USGenWeb Hillsboro Co.
