I jumped reflexively on that Pratt cemetery list. It was a good drill, although I later concluded that my Piscataquis County Pratt antecedents probably migrated directly from the Plymouth Colony area to central Maine. It was interesting, however, to see how many of those southern NH family names are also represented in Franklin County Maine, where I grew up. It appears that a large number of the families who settled in that tier of towns along or above US 2 in Maine migrated from New Hampshire in the first half of the 19th Century. My Hillsbrough County families include Melendy and Chandler, from Wilton, and Kenney (Kinney) and Phelps from Hollis. The Wilton families ended up in Wilton, Maine; the Hollis families in the vicinity of Dover-Foxcroft. Other Piscataquis County families in my history came from Knap County: Nuite (Nute) and Gilman from Gilmanton, and Edgerly from Alton. So although I grew up in Maine, and have Maine roots as far back as the 1650's, in 1800 I had a lot more ancestors in New Hampshire than in Maine. So I appreciate your website. Keep up the good work.
