Having been born and raised in Hillsboro I can tell you that the official name has not been changed, however the name used is Hillsboro, NH. I attended Hillsboro-Deering Schools and all mail is addressed to Hillsboro, NH 03244. The paper is the Hillsboro Messenger. Perhaps the reason the community shortened the spelling was to differentiate it from the county. I know this is a source of great confusion in the genealogy community, as requests for information from the entire county of Hillsborough is frequently directed to volunteers who have information on the town of Hillsboro. As a native and a genealogist I can tell you life is much easier if you can differentiate it that way. The population of the town I think has topped 5,000 now, where the county contains the largest cities of the state. ----- Original Message ----- From: Julie C Hesson <ww6916@dragonbbs.com> To: <NHHILLSB-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, October 18, 2000 8:08 PM Subject: Re: [NHHILLSB] Hillsborough Co.
