I am new to this list but have a problem with my ancestor, James B. Hill. He is stated on son's death record to have been born in Dalton, ME (?). The census from 1860 (Patten, ME) states James B. Hill born in New Hampshire. I know that Dalton, ME had changed named to Ashland and so on. His descendants seemed to be from NH areas and this leaves me with a feeling that he was born in NH. Can someone add to this information or possibly give suggestions before I write for vital records (too costly for both states). Thank you in advance. Gene in AZ
