Dear Listers, Just thought I'd tell you a little bit about my New Hampshire connections. My ggggg-grandfather first arrived in Boston about 1749. His name was Nathaniel GORDON and he came from Tyrone, Ireland with his wife, Sarah MARTIN, and four children: John, James, Samuel and Hannah. They had planned to go to Virginia where a (unknown) brother was already living, but their ship was forced to dock in Boston instead. Samuel GORDON married Eleanor MITCHELL and moved to Bedford, NH. He stayed in Bedford a short time, then sold his property to his brother John GORDON. John lived in Bedford all his life and raised a large family. My gggg-grandfather Samuel GORDON and his wife Eleanor moved to Peterborough, NH and raised a large family. Samuel lived and died in Peterborough as did Eleanor. His second son Nathaniel GORDON b. about 1774 was my ggg-grandfather. I have been unable to find a birth record or marriage record for Nathaniel. Apparently there was a Presbyterian church fire which destroyed all the vital records prior to 1791. Nathaniel GORDON married a woman named Sophia (b.1790, maiden name unk) who was born in Conn. and they moved to Madison County, New York. Nathaniel froze to death in New York some time in 1827, leaving 36 year old Sophia with at least 7 children to raise. My brick wall is Sophia. I have been searching for her maiden name for many years with no success. I found her tombstone in New York but no maiden name was given. I have researched a number of other families in the Hillsborough, NH and Madison, NY areas hoping to find a connection for Sophia but have never been able to piece together the puzzle. Actually I have other brick walls, too...such as who were the Scotch-Irish relatives in Tyrone, Ireland? Also I've never been able to find out who that brother was in Virginia. If anyone out there in cyber-space has any suggestions, advice, answers, or comments I'd love to hear from you. Thanks, Ruth in Missouri
