    3. I'm forwarding this to the list so you all know what going on Fred List Owner ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------- Hi, folks -- Well, it took almost two months longer than expected, but we're right now installing a SmartList hack that blocks file attachments (including VCARDS), HTML messages and enriched text postings. Sorry about the delay: things have been crazy around here. This note is to let you know how it works. When a poster sends something to a mailing list written in HTML, or with a non-plain-text attached file, the list server will send the poster's message back to them, with a note at the bottom explaining the plain-text requirement at RootsWeb. A COPY OF THIS REJECTION MESSAGE WILL BE SENT TO YOU AS WELL! That's because the poster may write back to you to complain or to ask for help, and it can be pretty confusing if they write a reply to a message that you never saw. So when you suddenly start getting messages from YOURLIST-L-REQUEST@rootsweb.com, quoting some ungodly HTML mess that you never saw before, don't be alarmed. :-) It just means the list server is rejecting a MIME message that was sent to your list, and that you may get a response from the poster. This change is not currently something the listowner can turn on and off. Attachments will be blocked from every list alike. This might not be to the taste of some listowners, so we'll consider closely whether it would be safe to make it an optional setting. Thanks to Marc Nozell for finding the SmartList patch that was used as the basis for this fix! ____________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________ Fred Kunchick GSCS[SW] USN Retired Pennsauken NJ kunchick@bellatlantic.net Editor of The Northern KIMBALL On-Line Newsletter Member: NEHGS Camden County (NJ) Historical Society Lo/Lathrop Family Association Kimball Family Association Towne Family Association Home Page: URL: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Ridge/7158/index.html Coos County, NH USGenWeb CC. 3. Janice, At the risk of being very presumptuous, perhaps you could keep an eye out for the Stevens family when you go to the Manchester Library. I live in Olympia, Wa, and would love to spend a little time there. The commute is a little tough for me. :) If you could look for references to the following, I'd love to know what you might find: 1. Ephraim Stevens, b. Derryfield in 1758, married Dorcas Farmer, was the son of 2. Ebenezer Stevens, b. unknown place, perhaps in 1732, married Esther (?) son of 3. Benjamin Stevens, b. unknown place, uncertain time, perhaps married to Abigail(?) I have more on the families of Ephraim and Ebenezer, but will hold that for now unless someone expresses an interest. I have three possible Ebenezer/Benjamin lines for connection to Ephraim. One is in Concord, one in Kingston, and one in Durham. I'd love to know which is the right one. If you have the time to look, I'd appreciate knowing what you found. Thanks. Isn't there a way for these to be allowed? I have found many links that others have sent helpful, & consider these one of the benefits to the mail. --Ann

    3. Hello Everyone, I'm researching the family of Joshua TODD (b. abt 1726 pos. Rowley) of Temple, NH. His ancestory has proven illusive as there were at least 4 possible TODD family links (one of Londonderry, one of New Ipswich-Peterborough area, NH & one of Rowley, MA & Charlestown, MA). They may all be related to each other as John TODD who settled in Rowley in 1638 originally came it appears from Charlestown, & many in Temple area of NH were from Rowley, MA. I have one reference to Joshua being born in Rowley-Canada which I believe was in the New-Ipswich area. Does anyone know where records (if they exist) for Rowley-Canada would have been placed? Is anyone else researching the ancestors & descendants of Joshua TODD? Thank you. --Ann

    1. Re: Weare/Francestown Search
    2. Steve
    3. Ellen, Welcome to NH, a little early. Research in New Hampshire can be done in a number of different ways. Each town generally has a historic society but they are usually small and do not keep any regular hours. The town halls usually have the name of someone to contact at the society. Most towns have records back to their charter dates. For example Merrimack has original town records, which surprisingly they allow open access to, back to 1747. So the town hall is always a good place to start, especially since you have a resonable date range to look in. The state historical society and state library are located in Concord. Not far from Weare and Francestown. Then again given the size of the state nothing is far from Concord. The two buildings are located near each other and between them you should be able to locate most town, state and NH military records. By the way Clough State Park is located in Weare, was this named for your ancestors? The Francestown area is very nice. Great views of the Monadnock Mts. Often in the summer you will see painters along the roadside doing landscapes. Hope this helps Steve At 04:18 PM 6/18/98 -0500, Ellen Bisson wrote: >Will be in NH by end of next week.
