I've recently traced the Hildreth family to Litchfield, NH, but have not found any town records or VRs for Litchfield. I've not had an opportunity to check at the FHC, but was wondering if anyone was familiar with Litchfield. If anyone has access to a Litchfield town record or history, I would appreciate a look up for the following Hildreth (Heldreth, Heldrith, Hilldrith, etc) family: 1. Jacob Hildreth, b. 18 Jul 1709 in Chelmsford to Ephraim and Anna (Moore) Hildreth, married Abigail Harwood (daughter of William and Esther (Perry) Harwood) 18 Oct 1730. They were the parents of: 2. Esther/Easter Hildreth, b.26 Aug 1731, who may have married Ebenezer Stevens (son of Benjamin and Abigail Stevens). I would very much like to hear about any evidence that connects any of the above to Litchfield, NH. As always, I'd be very happy to share information. Gordon

Hi Hillsborough Co. Rooters, When I visited Boston this summer, I took the time to visit the Boston Tea Party ship. It was a lot of fun and I recommend it. There was a small museum and a nice display listing the men in the Boston Tea Party. I have never seen this list any where else, but I am sure it is in some books. I thought others might like to see this list. They did not have a postcard or booklet with this data. I am so glad I took a photo of the display. Several of the names may belong to my tree. I have stared them and if anyone knows who they are, I would appreciate hearing from you. Hope I haven't spelled your ancestor's name incorrectly... and hope you find someone who belongs to your family!! You may find some suprising names in the list. Rhett Regina Owings.... georgeo@earthlink.net ============================================================ THE MEN OF THE BOSTON TEA PARTY The men who dumped tea into Boston Harbor were from many different backgrounds. About one-third of them were skilled artisians such as carpenters, masons and shoemakers. A much smaller number were merchants, doctors, clerks, and the like. The occupations of all the participants are not known, but he majority were probably apprentices and common laborers, Alongside participants of English descent were men of Irish, Scottish, French, African and Portugese origins. The Tea Party was also the work of young people. Two-thirds of those whose ages were known were under 20, including 16 teenagers. Only nine are known to have been 40 years old or older. Most of the men were from Boston and vincity, but some came from as far away as Worcester and Maine. Listed below are named of partiots recorded to have been involved in the Tea Party protest. Not all of the participants are known, as some carried the secret of their participation to the end of their days. Do you have a Revolutionary ancestor? I recently found a copy of "New Hampshire 1776 Census" by Jay Mack Holbrook, in which it was recorded that Jacob Hildreth was residing at Amherst in Hillsborough County. I believe this might be the same Jacob who married Abigail Harwood (of Dunstable) in Chelmsford on 18 Oct 1730. I believe that Jacob and Abigail were the parents of Esther/Easter, born 26 Aug 1731. I am trying to find evidence that this Esther/Easter married Ebenezer Stevens and resided in Derryfield. It appears the Hildreth family may have migrated from Chelmsford to Amherst, and I am looking for any information about the family in Amherst that I can find. Can anyone provide assistance? Is there a town history with a genealogical record available? Does anyone have access to a copy to do a Hildreth look up? Are there vital records available from Amherst? I would greatly appreciate hearing from anyone with access to Amherst records. Thanks for any assistance you can provide. Gordon

I'm trying to verify the presence of the Jacob and Abigail (Harwood) Hildreth family in the Hillborough County area (ideally in Derryfield/Goffstown) in the period 1745-1765. This is what I think I know: Ephraim Stevens married Dorcas Farmer 27 Sep 1781 in Derryfield. The parents of Ephraim are known to be Ebenezer and Esther/Easter (?) Stevens, and the parents of Dorcas were Joseph and Dorcas (Vickery) Farmer. I am trying to find the identity of Ebenezer's wife Esther with one critical clue. It seems that Ephraim and Dorcas named some of their children after their parents (i.e., Dorcas Vickery Stevens, Joseph Farmer Stevens, Ebenezer Stevens), and one of their children was named Esther/Easter Hildreth Stevens. In searching for a likely candidate, I found Esther Hildreth, daughter of Jacob and Abigail, born 26 Aug 1731 in Chelmsford, MA. She is born at the right time to be the possible wife of Ebenezer, and I just need to place her in appropriate proximity. I would estimate their marriage date to be about 1750-53 based upon the births of their children. I know there are Hildreths in the area, and I believe that includes Jacob, but I cannot yet prove it. Is anyone familiar with this family, and can you place them in the neighborhood of Derryfield/Goffstown? If you have access to local genealogies/town histories from the area, I would appreciate hearing if you found any reference to them. I look forward to hearing further about the Hildreths. Gordon

Janet, What I can offer is a bit early for your Stephen and Daniel, but it might provide a helpful lead. I have copies of pages from "The Old Families of Salisbury and Amesbury, Massachusetts" by David W. Hoyt that references a number of Bartletts (pps 54-59). On page 57, #11 is Richard Bartlett (Richard2, Richard1), and he has two sons (among others) named Daniel (b.8 Aug 1682) and Stephen (b. 21 Apr 1691). The names Daniel and Stephen do not appear elsewhere. Naming patterns sometimes provide a useful clue for tracking ancestors, and people from the Salisbury/Amesbury area did migrate to NH. You might want to look there for a connection. Just a thought. I hope it helps. Good luck. I am trying to locate descendants of James O'Brien (b. 1855 NY) and Lucy Flemming (b. Hemingford, PQ), especially descendants, if any, of sons: Joseph Henry, b. 8/24/1887; Fred I., b. 1/29/1892; and John Charles, b. 6/24/1893. I am also trying to determine the parents of Thomas O'Brien who married Genevieve Marnes (daughter of James O'Brien's sister, Doralta Cordetta O'Brien, and Edwin Marnes). Genevieve was born ca 1881. Was this a "cousin" marriage or into another O'Brien family? Also, if you are related to any of the O'Briens buried in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Hudson, I would like to compare notes. I have a lot of info on my particular family who are buried there - probably close to 20 of them!! TIA for any help on this. Dear Hillsboro Researchers... Please accept my apologies in advance for the length of this, but having so little to go on, I have to give you everything I know. My grandmother always claimed her father was a close relation to the president yet I have never been able to locate any info on him at all. I am hoping that someone might recognize the family names. FRANK(LIN) PIERCE b ca 1850 to the best of my reckoning and was a cabinetmaker by trade. He married (1) Unknown, and had sons FRANKLIN, ARTHUR and CLEVELAND, birth order unknown, tho' it is believed that son Franklin was born 1882 and died in Vermont in the early 1960's. (Apparently the vitals I have on this younger Franklin are improper as a request Vermont VRs came back as unknown). (2) MARY (aka Mae) LAURETTA McDERMOTT, a 16 / 17 yr old still living at home in New Haven, CN with her parents PATRICK and ANNE GORMLEY McDERMOTT. (One source shows Mary's maiden name as GRAHAM and an elderly cousin recalls his father saying she was married under the name of GORHAM. We believe a false name was used to conceal family embarassment). Frank(lin) and Mary were "indiscrete" - Frank(lin) was literally chased to Petersburg, Isle of Wight, Virginia and a marriage forced. The result of this indiscretion was my grandmother, DOROTHY MAE PIERCE, who was born there March 24, 1888. (Town records destroyed in a fire, of course, since this is the only hard fact that I have!). Her only sibling, LEWIS WESLEY PIERCE, was born in the early 1890's in Norwich, CN. Later family residences were in the greater Boston area, mostly to the north. It is believed that Franklin died considerably sooner than Mary Lauretta, who passed away in Lawrence, MA in 1941 and is buried in New Bedford, MA. This is our family's longest standing brickwall....please, can anyone help? Thanks so much, Barbara Stuart
