    3. Jorge and Vickie, I, also am researching Woods. My descent is from Samuel. This is what I think I know: 1. Alice Wood, b. 20 Aug 1732 in Groton, married Benjamin Parker 8 Jan 1752, and died 13 Nov 1816 in Hollis, NH. She was the daughter of: 2. John Wood, b. 3 Mar 1698 in Groton, married Sarah Longley 3 Jun 1725 in Groton, and died 7 May 1782 in groton. He was the son of: 3. Nathaniel Wood, b. 27 Mar 1667/68 in Groton, married Eleanor (?) bef. 1694, and died 20 Jun 1738 in Groton. He was the son of: 4. Samuel Wood, b. abt 1636 (possibly) in Watertown, married Alice Rushton 28 Sep 1659 in Cambridge, and died abt 1717 in Groton. He was the son of: 5. Unknown Vickie, this appears to be your line, also. Can you fill in any gaps, i.e., Nathaniel's wife, the parents of Alice Rushton? I do have information about the Longleys if that is of interest. Would love to hear more, Gordon Kirkemo >______________________________X-Message: #4 >Date: Wed, 21 Oct 1998 21:42:56 EDT >From: VEWhite@aol.com >To: NHHILLSB-L@rootsweb.com >Message-ID: <68a24ab9.362e8da0@aol.com> >Subject: Re: [NHHILLSB-L] WOODS >Content-type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII >Content-transfer-encoding: 7bit > >Jorge Woods wrote -- > ><< Anyone researching the surname WOODS in New Hampshire? >> > >Yep, I am. <G> My husband descends from Samuel WOODS who >was in Cambridge MA in 1659. 2. Gordon Kirkemo wrote -- The surname is WOODS, not WOOD. There are several separate and distinct families of WOOD and WOODS, so don't confuse yourself. <G> << Can you fill in any gaps, i.e., Nathaniel's wife, the parents of Alice Rushton? I do have information about the Longleys if that is of interest. >> For a long time, Nathaniel's first wife was thought to be Eleanor _____, his second wife was thought to be Alice WHITNEY, his third wife was Sarah BROWN, and his fourth wife was Mary (BLANCHARD) DERBYSHIRE. Several researchers, myself included, have been researching the Eleanor and Alice problem. We have come to the conclusion that Eleanor and Alice were one in the same person and that she was not a WHITNEY. You can read more about this at http://www.erols.com/rlward1/whitney/index.html which describes our research and theories. As for Alice RUSHTON, nothing has been found on her as far as I know. I think we are all awaiting the publication of the next few volumes of The Great Migration Begins, which should cover the huge influx of immigrants from 1634 to 1635 (the series will go beyond those two years, but the next volume or two will stop at 1635 I think). My husband is descended from Nathaniel WOODS, son of Samuel and Alice, through his son Nathaniel WOODS Jr. Hope this helps. Vickie Elam White

    1. [NHHILLSB-L] NH towns once MA? WOODS/BUTLER
    2. I am interested in the post from Vickie Elam White mentioning a few of the towns in NH that were once part of MA. My family is BUTLER, and while census informaiton indicates NH, some family stories say MA. I'm looking at 1780's births (for Jonathan Butler) and have been focusing on the Pelham Butler line. Could someone direct me to a source for the areas of NH once MA? and the dates? Just a good historical atlas maybe? Dianne Butler Lucas

    3. I am looking for parents, etc., of Jacob Smith -- here is what I know: History of Oxford, Mass., by George F. Daniels [Oxford 1892], page 696: "Jacob, of Deering, N.H., m. 1 Aug. 1791, Ruth, dau. of John Larned, owned from 1791 to 1793 the Lyman Wetherell farm, H. 68, removed from town. . . Children: Polly T., b. 26 Jan., 1792; Miriam, b. 21 July, 1794." [Ruth also is found in the Learned Genealogy, as No. 134, page 58]. Two of my granddaughters are descended from Miriam -- and it would be a shame not to fill this gap in their ancestry! All clues appreciated. Harman Clark P.O.
