    2. Susan Johanson
    3. I need some information from a book called History of Hillsborough,NH .The source does not list the author. I would like to find out the names and dob of Matthew Gibson's (born about 1748) and Elizabeth McClary's (born about 1750) children. Mathew Gibson is listed on page 237 of the book according to the source. His father, Samuel Gibson, is listed on pages 237-243. The only child listed in the family tree I have is Rachel Gibson born 1781. If you could check and see if the book lists the other children, I would be very grateful. I'm sure they had other children, and I hope that the book lists them also. Thank you so much for your time. Susan Johanson -- Susan C. 3. Awhile ago there was a posting about why a man would have several marriages to different women in a short period of time. While I agree with the basics of bad luck, and most definitely the likely hood of bigamy - the thought of epidemics was passed around. This information came to me from another list and I did get some answers to my questions - hope it helps someone else. 2. Gordon & Jane
    3. Linda, The answer may be simpler than you suspect. I have encountered several examples in my research where one spouse just up and abandoned the other. This seems to have been a de facto divorce. As your husband suggests, the three marriages may have occurred because the man was a scoundrel, or simply a bad husband. The wives may have gotten tired of his behavior and left him. I have at least one example of that happening where a child was involved, and the husband was left with the child. You mentioned the second wife giving birth; do you know what became of the child? Did it stay with the father, or go with the mother? Gordon
