I'm researching Chatel/LaPointe in Mass, NH, NY, and Quebec. My ggrandfather, Walter Roland Chatel, was born in Central Falls, RI, 1904. He had 2 brothers Lawrence and Wallace, and a sister Yvonne. Yvonne and Wallace were born in Mass. Their mother, Eva LaPointe was born in Sciota, NY, 1884. Their father was ROUEL F.CHATEL also found in records as Robert F. or Ralph F., the F. is believed to be Francios and was also found as Frances. He was born in Manchester, NH. I've found at least three large families of Chatels in the Manchester/Nashua areas, many of whom are his cousins and siblings. It appears they moved from Quebec to NH and raised families. However, many of these NH birth records leave out the first name of each child, so I cannot confirm which child belongs to the appropriate CHATEL. Rouel Chatel's brother Prosper Chatel m. Eva's sister Lucinda Lapointe. I am aware of one other possible sibling, Edmond, though I suspect many more exhisted. The parents of Eva and Lucinda were Gilbert Lapointe (b~1841, St. Therese, PQ, CAN; d. 1898, Manchester, NH) and Ida (aka Phoebe) CHARBONNEAU (b.~1851 Sciota, NY, d.1906 Nashua, NH). I have 9 possible children listed for Gilbert and Ida. The parents of Rouel and Prosper were Prosper Chatel (b. 1849, CAN) and Marceline GAGNE (b ~ 1850, Montreal). Both apparently died in 1918 in Manchester, NH. The grandparents of Prosper and Rouel were Prosper Chatel and Libert GAGNON (assumed to be from CAN). No further information is known of this couple. DJ, Saw your posting and noted we have several surnames in common, so thought I'd send a note to see if we have common family lines. The surnames you cited that are of interest to me include: Brooks, Carr, Carter, Clark, Foster, Gawkroger, Harris, Hopkins, Moore, Mousall, Partridge, Prescott, Richardson, Sawtell, Smith, Stevens, and Wheeler. Perhaps we could share the names of original immigrants to compare? Unfortunately, I can't help you with Chatel and Lapointe. Let me know if you want to make further comparisons.
