Are you sure you have the correct names; as far as I know, Hampton, NH, is in Rockingham County. Sincerely, Lucille At 07:49 PM 9/8/99 -0700, you wrote: >Is there a list for Hampton, Essex Co. NH? I am just posting my newly found information on Joslins from Nashua NH and sending out feelers for more information. My greatgrandfather Joseph N. Joslin was born in Nashua, NH ca 1860 to Joseph N Joslin (born ca 1840-d. 9/14/1892) and Mary L (born ca 1843-d.6/15/1890). Joseph N.and Mary both died in Leominster Massachusetts. At present I do not know Mary L. Joslin's middle or maiden name , her birth date (ca1840) and place, or marriage date and place; nor do I have the vital information on Joseph N.Joslin. I don't have the exact birth date of Joseph Jr. either. I intend to write Nashua Vital records to see if they have birth records for Joseph Jr for 1860. However is there a centralized place to request a New Hampshire vital record if one does not have the town and only an approximate year. Also how much does Nashua charge and how much for state records if ordering and paying by snail mail-the no rush kind?
Hi Diane and All, I have searched the History of Washington, Hillsboro and Windsor, NH as well as neighboring Antrim, NH and found precious little. The History of Hillsborough, Vol. 1 pg. 281 lists "Ford, George A. Priv. Co. G: b. in Hillsboro; res. in Hillsboro; age 18; enl. Aug 11 1862; must. in Aug 14 1862 must. out June 10, 1865." This is under the Roll of the Ninth Regiment Volunteer Infantry and briefly gives the battles they fought in. The Chapman family was of Windsor and I have found very little on them. A Helen M. Chapman "of Windsor" married a brother of my Blanchard ancestors of Washington in 1858. The History of Hillsborough has a few references to the family scattered through Vol. 2 as they married other Hillsboro families. Nothing ties into your info. I just looked at Windsor in the History of Hillsboro County and found quite a bit about the service that the Chapman men did to the town but no genealogy and no mention of childless couples or adoption. The NH State Hospital in Concord has primarily served as a psychiatric facility, though I have read accounts of TB victims going there for treatment where they eventually died. I do not know if it ever served any other purposes or not. It is still there where many of the old buildings had fallen into disrepair. The State has now began to restore them, and I work in one of them. I do not believe patients were ever buried on the grounds, certainly there are no cemeteries there now. Perhaps Emma was buried in Concord elsewhere. Good luck in your search, Sherry -----Original Message----- From: Diane Stephens [SMTP:dstephens@webzone.net] Sent: Monday, September 06, 1999 1:25 AM To: NHHILLSB-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [NHHILLSB] Fords, Barretts, & Chapmans I'm looking for info on William C. FORD, his wife Sarah Ann ORNE, and their children George Albert FORD and Emma FORD. William and Sarah married in Washington, Sullivan Co., NH on July 1, 1840. I don't have birthdates or parentage on William or Sarah. William was supposedly a medical doctor and Sarah supposedly an ordained Methodist preacher (I didn't know they ordained women then?). George was born April 30, 1845 in Hillsboro, Hillsborough Co., NH. Emma was born about 1842. She evidently married a BARRETT b/c she died as Emma BARRETT in NH State Hospital on Jan 25, 1921. (By the way where is this hospital & what type would it be? She was supposedly buried there.) As the story goes, Emma and George were both orphaned at a young age and were being raised by a grandmother, whose surname might have been FORD or MUGFORD. By about 1852, she also had died and Emma & George were "adopted" by a family named CHAPMAN. At that time, they had no children, but did go on later to adopt two more. Hi Kathy, I have a copy of Alva Tuttle's book, Tuttle Tuthill Lines in America. Can I help you find someone in your family? What do you need to know about Jonas?? Hello, Is there anyone on this list who has a copy of the History of Antrim, NH by Cochraine who could tell me if there is anything in the genealogy section pertaining to a Tuttle family? In particular, Jonas Tuttle who married a Mary Dinsmoor. I can borrow this book from the NEHGS library, but I'm not sure it will be available, the last few times I have borrowed books from them I have not gotten the books I ordered. If Tuttles are in there, I will try to put this book on reserve until it finally comes through. My husband's family is all intertwined with the Carr, Dinsmoor, Buchanan, and Tuttle lines, who were in Windham, NH:, Antrim, NH.: and Newbury, Vermont. I would be glad to hear from anybody who is interested in any of these families. I also have, in my family tree, Boyd, Steele, Dascomb, and Lufkin from the Hillborough area. Hello, Hoping someone could help me. Oscar C. Ecklund, born 23 Oct 1863 in Christian, Norway, died in Dover, NH 13 May 1933. He was married to Grace Snell (born in Madbury, NH) in Lawrence, MA 1912. They had a son, Leif Paul Ecklund born about 21 June 1915, who was an undertaker in Milford, NH until his death in 1970. Oscar is buried in Lee Hill Cemetery, in Lee, NH. I would like to find if any of Leif Paul Ecklund's family is still in the Milford, NH area and may be interested in the Ecklund Family history. I am just posting a note on my family. My grandmother Eva Joslyn was born in Nashua, NH around 1888 to a Mr.______Josslyn and Josephine Betters. I believe that they moved over to Worcestor County, Mass. soon after that. I think it is Josephine Betters Joslyn and Eva are on the Leominster census for 1900. I have Eva's fathers name somewhere but can't find it. It seems I have heard that 2 Joslyn brothers married 2 Betters sisters, but I can't confirm this. There was a relation by marriage- Helen Joslyn- who lived in Massachusetts and who died very recently. She lived in the vicinity of Clinton Massachusetts. If these names sound familiar to anyone then recheck your family Bible and let me hear from you. :)
The site is great. By the time I finished reading, the picture had finished loading. Looks good! Loretta B.

I am seeking information on a "Marquis" family that lived in Whitefield, N.H. They were listed in the 1900 census. Luis(John)Marquis, wife Marceline and eight children. Anything available would be greatly appreciated....Thanks
I am researching the ancestors of Hannah Washer UPTON, born 2 December 1773 in Amherst, Hillsboro, NH, and died 20 September 1856 in Milford, Hillsboro, NH. In the book, "The Family of Captain John Mills," on page 36, Hannah is listed with earlier Uptons listed above her. Is there a more complete genealogy available? Also, reference is made on page 46 of the same book to Hannah Washer Upton's ancestry being traced back to Rebecca Towne NURSE, a witch convicted and hung in Salem, MA on 19 July 1692. Is there a genealogy available which traces this lineage? Thank you, Rob Gregg Medfield, MA
Hello Hillsborough County Researchers, I have just updated my website with a very long list of folks from Mason, NH with entries in the vital records of a number of Mass. towns. I have added an entirely new page for this. There are also fairly new pages for FLAGG, RUSSELL and HILL families of Mason. If you are looking for Mason folk check it out. If you find something of help to you, I sure would like to hear about it! :>) Good luck in your research.
