A few more points about the NH Vital Records room in Concord, NH .... Be sure your laptop comuter battery is charged, there is no way to plug it in! And on Wednesdays, they close early to mop the floor! Records are kept on long cards. You fill out a form asking for a particular surname group. They charge 50รง per copy per record. If you put 3 cards on the copy machine, you pay for each record! Of course, you can just handcopy the record on to your own index cards! Check out the Bride's Index on microfilm. I found lots of records there that I did not find cards for. It is confusing to read, however. Ask for help. The LDS church has microfilmed these records just recently. I am not sure if they are available yet, but an older version is. There is a great cafeteria only a few steps away. Lots of parking available. Best of Luck.... wish I could go with you! Hi: If you don't mind looking up the birth of Harrison W. Blackstone, parents were Daniel Blackstone and Hannah Pollard Blackstone. Harrison was born I believe in 1831 or there abouts. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Sincerely, PBeutner
I go to Concord,NH, to the Vital Records office every so often. Is there anything I can look up for you?
Looking for CHARLES HILL from HILLSBORO NH or it could be HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY. There's is a connection to BIXBY line they are cousins.but have no more info on them. This would have been late 1800s early 1900s. I believe the town of HILLSBORO to be right but it could be the county. He would have been in LYNN, MA 191?'s till about 1930s. He was married LOUISE MARY SULLIVAN. They had 3 sons WILLIAM, FRANCIS AND THOMAS. THANKS FOR ANY INFO THIS MAY BRING Joe
To Donalene and Carla, my thanks. The facts are that I have her obituary, wedding certificate and 1880 Census saying she was born in Nashua. I also have a copy of the Nashua Directory for 1877 showing her father living on Walnut St in Nashua at the time. Living in Arizona, it is hard to go to all the spots there to do much investigation. I know there has been one reply asking if you have checked church records town hall etc. Are you sure that the event actually took place in New Hampshire. I know of a couple people who have banged their heads on the wall looking for a record in one state only to find later they were looking in the wrong state. 1877 isn't that far back I am surprised the state did not have a record. Carla
Have you tried church records? Cemetery records, town hall? Good Luck
I am searching for any data relating to the birth of my grandmother. The State of New Hampshire has no official record. Perhaps a vital record notice in a newspaper? Or something else? Name: Bertha Maud Bennett Date: 18 Aug 1877 Parents: William J. Bennett & Orpha (Perkins) Bennett Thank you in advance, Chet Davis bears4cind@aol.com
Hi, I am just starting to research my family tree, and who knows maybe some of my relatives are receiving this! My father (now deceased) was born and raised in the West Stewartstown/Pittsburg area of NH. My dad was Ernest Robert Lapoint. His parents were Ernest Henry Lapoint and Edith (sorry don't know her maiden name yet). My dad was born in 1929, his mom was born in 1896, so I assume my grandfather was born about the same time. There were 5 chilcren in my fathers family: Richard, Barbara (Brown, Webster), Leta (Nadeau), Ernestine (Chase, Colcord) and my dad. Both of my grandparents are buried in Pittsburg. My dad moved me and my mom to southern New Hampshire about 1962. My fathers nicknames were Red and Ernie. I still have several cousins living in Pittsburg. I plan to contact one or two of them to see if they have any family information, as I live in Florida now and looking up information is difficult for NH. So if my family name sounds familiar, please let me know as I would appreciate any information. Thank you, Betty Lapoint Hagood
Dear Debbie, Your explanation does make sense - and there's no reason why there can't be other similar projects. I have 2 counties in TXGenWeb, and it's about all I can do to keep up with them and do my own research in NH, NY, and MI, and a few other states. Best of luck to you, Gail
Thank you, Gail. Please let me know if you ever find "a few extra hours" (ha, ha, ha) which you'd like to volunteer to GenExchange. Hello Gail. Thank you. To answer your question........I am the County Coordinator for the Washington County, Rhode Island USGenWeb Project and have been for about a year now. Very involved and help in any way I possibly can. When I received an invitation to join the GenExchange project and offer my knowledge to those folks, I thought it could be mutually beneficial, so I agreed to take on Rhode Island and Vermont (my home state). I agree with you whole-heartedly about UsGenWeb being a leader in efforts to increase free access to genealogical information over the Internet. But, there is no reason that there cannot be others who also offer free access to the same types of information. As I'm sure you're aware, there are many, many opportunities of finding genealogy free over the internet. GenExchange is just one more opportunity for researchers to find information at no charge to them. There are so many people out there charging for information, and those of us who don't agree with charging for information volunteer our time to projects to transribe histories and vital records to be made available to ALL at no charge. In most cases, the information available on GenExchange is not the same as the information available on Rootsweb or any other project site. I'm basically jumping into the pot instead of just dipping my toes in!<G> Live to help others and this is just one more way I can do that. Dear Debbie, Your efforts are to be praised, but I have a question - in view of the fact that we already have the USGenWeb Project, with state and county sites for the U.S., why is another similar project necessary? The USGenWeb Project has been a leader in efforts to increase free access to genealogical information over the Internet since April of 1996. Wouldn't it be more productive for those who share this goal to offer assistance to USGenWeb county coordinators, or to offer to adopt counties within that project? Hello, all: I have a collection of several SWININGTON names from Hillsborough Co., several of which have not yet been tied together completely. I'm hoping to find more records that will give definite relationships. The surname was sometimes recorded as SWINNINGTON, and originates from the SWINERTON/SWINNERTON family of Massachusetts. Although family members are most prominent in Mont Vernon and (South) Lyndeborough, they are recorded in Amherst, Francestown, and Greenfield as well. I understand that there may be a SWINNINGTON burial site on Old Wilton Road, Mont Vernon, and would appreciate knowing more about that cemetery, and the possibility of any grave transcriptions that might be available. Many years ago, during a visit to the area, I came across the grave of Phebe F. Swinington (Died November 4, 1891) at a large cemetery just outside Francestown. For whatever reason, I have no record of the name of the cemetery! If anybody is searching the SWININGTON name, I will be very happy to hear from you. As well, if anybody happens across any references to the family in Hillsborough Co., or elsewhere for that matter, I will appreciate the information. Thank you, and happy hunting to all. Bill Swinarton, Scarborough, Ontario. ================== Note to Sue Gardner: I've been to your Pierce site and see that you have the Mrs. Phebe Pierce--Samuel Swinerton marriage. It's very possible that they are ancestors of at least some of the Hillsborough Co. names. ============== Subject: [NHHILLSB] Pierce - New England/New York Date: Sun, 17 Oct 1999 08:15:20 EDT From: SueG476@aol.com To: NHHILLSB-L@rootsweb.com Hello to all Pierce Searchers, I have been busily adding new data to the Pierce Surname Project for New England/New York. Hi listers, I am searching for the parents of Hannah SMITH (I know, there are LOTS of Hannah Smiths in New England!) who married Josiah SAWTELL (or SARTELL, interchangeable) before 1789, probably in or near Raby (now Brookline). Josiah was from Townsend MA, son of Ephraim and Abigail (Stone) SAWTELL, who seemed to float between Townsend and Raby/Hollis in this time period. Josiah and Hannah had children Hannah (born 1789 Raby), Josiah, Mary, Chester, Esther, Neuma, Walter and Price Sawtell. My only source for the list of children is a nortice in the Boston Transcript from 1904, which was probably taken from a family Bible or someone's notes. There are several candidate SMITH families in the area with children born in the 1760 to 1772 time frame. Joshua Smith of Raby, Timothy Smith of Amherst, and Emerson Smith of Hollis are three ikely candidates. Does anyone have probate or land records for SMITH's of this area? Any suggestions for me? Thanks -- Randy
