    1. [NHHILLSB] Nichols in Meetinghouse Hill Cemetery, Antrim
    2. Brooks
    3. Could someone tell me about the cemetery on Meetinghouse Hill off Route 31 in Antrim? Is there a list of graves for this cemetery? I am researching my ancestor Samuel Nichols who moved from Co. Antrim Ireland to New Hampshire. Samuel and his wife are said to be buried at the "old cemetery on the hill" which I've been told by another descendant is Meetinghouse Hill. I'd like to verify this for my records. - --------------------------------- Samuel Nichols, b. abt. 1720 in Ireland, died in 1804. His wife, Mary Ann, b. abt. 1722, died sometime around 1804. Samuel joined his four sons, Thomas, Daniel, Adam, & John in the town of Antrim before he died. 1. Samuel Nichols was born in Co. Antrim, Ireland 1714-1720. Samuel died 1804 in Antrim, Hillsborough, New Hampshire. Source: "History of the Town of Antrim, New Hampshire, From Its Earliest Settlement, To June 27, 1877, with a brief Genealogical Record of all the Antrim Families." By. Rev. W. R. Cochrane, Pastor of the Presbyterian Church. Published by the Town. Manchester, NH, Mirror Steam Printing Press. 1880. His wife was probably Mary Ann ? who he married in County Antrim, Ireland, before 1745. It is thought that she was Mary Ann Templeton possible sister to Adam Templeton of Ireland & New Hamsphire although no proof has been found. Samuel Nichols had the following children per Cochrane's book: + 2 i. Daniel Nichols b. abt. 1745.Daniel died March 3, 1812 Antrim, Hillsborough Co., New Hampshire. + 3 ii. Thomas Nichols was born May 16, 1751. . Thomas died June 27, 1810 in New York. + 4 iii. Adam Nichols was born 1754. Adam died Nov. 1847 in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Adam married Ruth Atwood in Hillsborough, New Hampshire, May 4, 1786. (Source: Marriage record on hand.) + 5 iv. John Nichols was born 1759. . John died 1812 Cattaraugus. It is possible that there is an older brother, Samuel. A Samuel Nichols is mentioned in Cochrane's history of Francestown as being a possible brother or cousin to the 4 Nichols brothers in Antrim. I'd appreciate any help with more information about this family especially the burial place of Samuel and his wife. Sincerely, Gwen Brooks

    1. [NHHILLSB]PRATT Cemetery, Mason, NH
    2. Rhett Owings
    3. Hi Hillsborough Co. researchers, I have received several emails from folks wanting to know about PRATT Cemetery in Mason, NH. I have looked through the History of Mason and found very little about the surname PRATT. This is what I was able to find: John Pratt arrived in Mason about 1789. He died 27 Jan 1832 at the age of 77y. [born ca 1755] His wife, Sarah, died in April 1834, age 86. [b: ca 1748] The lake near by was [and still is] called Pratt Pond. Pratt Cemetery was originally a family plot, yet no records of Pratt burials seem to exist. It grew into a neighborhood burying ground. In 1912 it was enlarged and in 1917 an additional piece of land was added to it. [ Mason Bicentennial 1768-1968, edited by Elizabeth Orton Jones, pg 172] I do not find any PRATT families in any of the Family Registers. Timothy PRATT of Malden married Ruhamah RUSSELL 30 July 1797 in Mason Oliver H. PRATT married Maria HILL 4 June 1829 in Mason Seems as though the Mason PRATTs were pretty quiet folk as I found very little about them. A check of the Mason federal censuses might be next in order for anyone researching this name. In checking the History of Fitzwilliam, NH I found many PRATT families. I also found PRATT families in Townsend, MA Nothing found in History of Brookline, NH. Hope this helps someone! Happy Holidays! Rhett R. 1. [NHHILLSB] Re: NHHILLSB-D Digest V00 #133
    2. I jumped reflexively on that Pratt cemetery list. It was a good drill, although I later concluded that my Piscataquis County Pratt antecedents probably migrated directly from the Plymouth Colony area to central Maine. It was interesting, however, to see how many of those southern NH family names are also represented in Franklin County Maine, where I grew up. It appears that a large number of the families who settled in that tier of towns along or above US 2 in Maine migrated from New Hampshire in the first half of the 19th Century. My Hillsbrough County families include Melendy and Chandler, from Wilton, and Kenney (Kinney) and Phelps from Hollis. The Wilton families ended up in Wilton, Maine; the Hollis families in the vicinity of Dover-Foxcroft. Other Piscataquis County families in my history came from Knap County: Nuite (Nute) and Gilman from Gilmanton, and Edgerly from Alton. So although I grew up in Maine, and have Maine roots as far back as the 1650's, in 1800 I had a lot more ancestors in New Hampshire than in Maine. So I appreciate your website. Keep up the good work. 3. Hi Karen: I believe that your ancestors and my husband's connect. His great grandfather was Horace Piper, son of Francis Piper and Abigail Goodnow (or Goodins or Goodnoe.) I do not know of other children. My papers are in CT where I live in the summer, but I recall that Francis and Abigail were married in Boston. I tracked down the church but could not get info on their records. Horace was born in Sterling MA and Abigail died in Sterling in 1866. Hope some of this helps. I have Francis Pipers ancestors. If you would like this list, please let me know. 1. [NHHILLSB] COLE in Milford, NH
    2. I'm searching for THOMAS M. COLE born around 1810 in Vermont. I was able to obtain this info through a census. He was married to a woman named Laura who was also born in Vermont around 1815. They had at least one son named FRANCIS M (perhaps for Marian) COLE. He was born either 14 Mar 1839 or April 27, 1835 in Oxford, Maine or Lowell, Mass. (Pension records and Milford history book say two different things) I've sent letters off to both places, but to no avail. It appears that records in Oxford have been lost or burnt in fires. Even without this info, I know a great deal about FRANCIS M. COLE, his wife Betsey Aham and the children. I have even visited his gravesite in Milford, NH and have obtained his pension records from the Civil War. I am looking for any advice on how I might find out about his mom and dad and any other siplings. I know there are a zillion Coles in this area, and have been searching and searching to find THOMAS COLE, married to an Ellen, with a child Francis M. Any helpful leads appreciated. 2. Diane Stephens
    3. My ggrandfather, George Albert FORD was b April 30, 1845 in Hillsboro, NH. A sister Emma was b abt 1843. Their father was William FORD. Previously thought their mother was Sarah Ann ORNE b/c William and Sarah married in 1840. However, I just this week received a death certificate of Emma and it lists her mother as Lucy OLMSTEAD. Now I wonder if perhaps Sarah died early in the marriage and William married Lucy. By 1850, George & Emma were supposedly orphans and being raised by their paternal grandmother who we thought might have been named MUGFORD or MUMFORD. By 1852, the children were suppposedly "adopted" by a family was named Chapman. Do any of these names sound familiar to anyone???

    1. [NHHILLSB] John SLEEPER b 1786, m Lydia DODGE, ca Francestown
    2. Robert J. O'Hara
    3. Greetings, all. This is one of my brick walls I posted a year or so ago. Just giving it a shot again. I am looking for the parents of a John SLEEPER, b 26 Oct 1786 (place uncertain), m 25 July 1809 at Francestown, New Hampshire, Lydia DODGE (b 16 Feb 1790). I have checked GENDEX and FamilySearch and find nothing. John's birthdate comes from the Dodge Genealogy, where he is described as a successful farmer in Francestown with 10 children. SLEEPER is a well-known name on the MA/NH border, and this John is certainly part of that family, but I haven't been able to link him up to the rest. Any info will be welcome. Many thanks. My Mary Elizabeth Parker married a Morrill Young in Lowell and lived in Nashua. Thanks again. Marcia

    1. Re: [NHHILLSB] Parker
    2. Saw your Parker family. I am descended from Thomas (Deacon) PARKER through Nathaniel then his daughter Susannah Sarah PARKER. She married Joseph UNDERWOOD. Their son, James UNDERWOOD, went on to some fame in Hillsborough county as one of the first Judge's. He also served in the Revolutionary War. I was interested in your line for Deacon Thomas. I had a birth date in 1605 and his father as Robert. This info was some time ago, so I was wondering if you had sources for an update. You also list the place of birth for Thomas and his father John. Thanks for sharing, hope to talk to you soon, Colin
