The Daily News May 2, 1962 Page: 7 Spaniard's Bay - Ethel Florence Andrews - We were genuinely sorry to hear last week of the passing of Florence, wife of Arthur Andrews, at her home in St. John's. She died on Tuesday, April 24. We knew her best as Florence Barrett, the only child of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Barrett of Spaniard's Bay, and one of our group who used to spend our spare afternoons in summer beside a pond in the care-free days of youth. Florence dearly loved the joy of living, and many happy hours we spent, as members of our group will recall, picnicking, boiling the kettle and cooking the pot at our favourite spot. When the days became shorter and the nights chilly, she was not the last to organize a house party so that the gang could get together. She was blessed with a pleasing personality and she had the rare sense to know when frivolities should end. She was the type of person one was glad to meet and to know. Having finished her schooling, she worked for a time with H. W. Sheppard and Sons as clerk, and subsequently went to St. John's to work at Bowrings. Her marriage to Arthur Andrews was blessed with two children, Bruce, who is now ten, and Suzanne, six; they are old enough to remember that theirs was a mommy as good as this world could afford. To her aged parents we offer sincere and heartfelt sympathy. Her funeral was held on Thursday and burial was in the Anglican Cemetery on Forest Road. May her soul, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. The Daily News October 16, 1962 Page: 11 Bay Roberts - William H. Badcock - There passed peacefully away at the St. John's General Hospital October 5th, William H. Badcock in his 71st. year. He was in failing health for some time, but was stricken more seriously on September 15th, and had to be rushed to the hospital where he underwent an operation and passed away a few days later. He was well and favourably known to all around, having worked as foreman in the fish store here for a number of years. In his earlier years he worked as a carpenter in the U.S.A. as well as in St. John's and other places. Not only will he be missed by his family circle, but by all who had the pleasure of knowing him as a very obliging neighbour and friend. He leaves to mourn their sad loss, his wife Susie; two daughters, Ada (Mrs. Frank Harvey) with whom he resided, Susie (Mrs. Harold Badcock) Coley's Point and four grandchildren; two stepsons, Lionel and Roland French of St. John's and Toronto respectively. One step daughter, Linda (Mrs. Thomas Bradbury) of this town as well as a large circle of relatives and friends. The funeral, which was largely attended took place Sunday, October 7th to the United Church and Cemetery with the Rev. J. B. Reynolds officiating. We cannot think of them as dead, Who walk with us no more; Along the path of life we tread, They have but gone before. The Daily News April 7, 1962 Page: 8 Spaniard's Bay - Susanna Barrett - "We bring our years to an end, as it were a tale that is told. The days of our age art three score years and ten; and though some be so strong that they come to four score years, yet is their strength then but labour and sorrow; so soon passeth it away and we are gone." Mrs. Susanna Barrett, who had reached her fourscore years, passed peacefully away at her residence here on Monday evening, March 26, calmly bringing to end a lifetime spent among family and friends in true Christian and godly living. In her eighty years she knew labour and sorrow, but her unswerving faith in God was evident, not by words, but by the way she lived, brought her through all the changing scenes of life, and she looked forward to her closing hour, not with fear and trembling, but in sure and certain hope of a happier life beyond the grave and a reuniting with loved ones who had gone before. A widow for almost thirty years, she was lovingly cared by her son Fred and his wife Millicent, and after Fred's sudden passing just over a year ago, here daughter-in-law continued her affectionate ministrations alone. Surviving her are one son Hugh, at Spaniard's Bay, two daughters, Annie (Mrs. Gordon Jones) at Spaniard's Bay, and Mabel (Mrs. W. Dawe) at Toronto, twelve grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, to whom we offer our sympathy. Her funeral was held on Wednesday. The service at the parish church of the Holy Redeemer, where she had been a faithful member and a regular communicant, was conducted by the rector, the Rev. E. Willis. Burial was in the family plot.
