As did most of his contemporaries, the late Mr. Barrett in his younger days went to Labrador as a fisherman, and later worked for some years as a miner on Bell Island. He was a friendly man, and he will be missed by his neighbours who could always depend upon him to lend a helping hand when needed. His passing is mourned by his widow, four sons, Francis at Hilton, David at St. Lawrence, William and Fred at Spaniard's Bay; one daughter, Myrtle, (Mrs. James Bradbury) at Shearstown; three brothers, William and Joseph at Spaniard's Bay, and Harvey in the USA; three sisters, Mary Jane (Mrs. James Murrin) at Spaniard's Bay, Elizabeth, (Mrs. George Parsons), and Eliza, (Mrs. Albert Caravan) both at Bay Roberts. His funeral was held on Thursday afternoon and was attended by the LOA, of which he was a life-long member. The service at Holy Redeemer Church was conducted by the Rev. E. Willis and burial was in the family plot. We offer sympathy to those who mourn. The Daily News January 16, 1963 Page: 14 Mrs. Cecily Butt passed peacefully away at her home here on Tuesday, January 8, at the age of eighty-six years. The late Mrs. Butt was a remarkably active woman for nearly all of her long life and it was only two years ago that she had a doctor attend her for the first time ever. As many of her generation she raised a large family in an era when there was never an over abundance of material blessings, but still she managed as best she could and always with a smile. Since her husband's death about twenty-five years ago she had been lovingly cared for by her daughter Edna. Surviving are four daughters, Susie in New York, Julia (Mrs. Lynch) at Paradise, C.B., Cecily (Mrs. William Noseworthy) and Edna at Spaniard's Bay; four sons, William at Paradise, C.B., Walter at Heart's Content, Selby at St. John's, and Stanley at Spaniard's Bay, and a large number of grandchildren. Her funeral took place on Thursday afternoon and after the service in Holy Redeemer Church her remains were laid to rest in the family plot in the church cemetery. The Rev. E. Willis officiated. We offer sympathy to those bereaved.
