The Cape Breton Post, July 19, 2013 Nita Dallas Lockyer-MacPherson Born In: Come By Chance, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada Passed in: New Waterford, Canada Passed on: July 17th, 2013 It is with sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Nita Dallas MacPherson, 53, of New Waterford, on July 17, 2013, at home following a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Come By Chance, Newfoundland, she was a daughter of the late Grace Smith. Nita was a groundskeeper and special needs assistant at Don Bosco School in Whitney Pier, George D. Lewis School in Louisbourg, and Sydney Academy from 1990-1999. She then moved on to become a PCW and was employed at Breton Bay and Harbourstone Nursing Homes until her retirement in 2010. Nita became very close to two of her co-workers who were soon considered adopted sisters, Brenda Leach (Wayne) and Donna Carrigan (Wayne). The three were commonly referred to as 'the cavewomen'. Nita loved radio bingo, darts, fishing and going out on the ATV. She also enjoyed a good drink and singing a tune. Her loved ones and friends often called her 'the Newfie Brawler'. Nita was a member of Calvin United Church, New Waterford. Surviving are her husband, Curtis MacPherson; daughters, Vanessa Allen, Sydney, Kimberly MacPherson (Paul Aucoin), New Waterford; sons, Terry (Danielle MacKinnon-Allen) Allen, Howie Centre, James Allen, Sydney, and Curtis Richard MacPherson, at home in New Waterford; brothers, James Lockyer (favourite sister-in-law, Connie), Gary Lockyer (Brenda), Rodney Lockyer (Sylvia), Casey Lockyer; sister, Beverly Lockyer, all of Newfoundland; special aunt Inez Barrett, B.C.; favourite cousin, Linda, Ontario; several nieces and nephews, especially favourite nieces, Robyn and Karly of Newfoundland. Besides her mother Grace, Nita was predeceased by a brother Chris Lockyer. Visitation will be held Saturday, July 20 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. The funeral service will take place Sunday at 3 p.m. in Calvin United Church with Rev. Duncan Roach officiating. Cremation will follow with a luncheon being held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 15, Plummer Avenue, immediately following the funeral service.
