The Cape Breton Post, January 12, 2017 Lloyd Evely Passed on: January 11th, 2017 It is with profound sadness that we, the family of ‘Big’ Lloyd Evely, announce his passing at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Wednesday, January 11, 2017, at the age of 92. Born in Flat Rock, Carbonear, Newfoundland, November 14, 1924, to the late Nicholas Evely and Gladys Pyke. Until his passing, Dad lived nearly his entire life in Whitney Pier, being able to reside in his Manse Street home which he proudly built for his family. A proud Steel Plant worker, he retired from his position as Supervisor of the ‘Docks’ after 48 years of dedicated service. His happiest times were spent with his family lending his expertise in ‘all matters technical’. He could fix anything and if he couldn't fix it, it was beyond hope. He is survived by his eight children, Gary (Elaine), Ron (Joanne), George (Rhonda), Ruthie (Barry) Sando, Markham, Ont., Sandra Evely, Bev (Chris) Tamm, Nanaimo, B.C., Valerie (Allister Rudderham) Evely and Joanne (David) Pyke; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sisters, Ursula Yates, Hazel Saniga, Helen (Wilson) Hunt, Vera Young, Delores (Robert ‘Muck’) Primmer and by his brother, William (Betty). Dad was predeceased by his wife and life-long partner, Ruth (Prosser); brothers, Al, Nickie, Mel; sister, Pauline Crane. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel. Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Saturday, January 14 from 1-2 p.m., followed by a funeral service in the chapel at 2 p.m., with Archdeacon Brenda Drake officiating.
