The Chronicle Herald, halifx, Janury 23, 2017 Ena Frances Porter(June 2, 1934 - January 20, 2017) Porter, Ena Frances - Age 82, of Lower Sackville, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family, Friday, January 20, 2017. Born in Lark Harbour, Newfoundland, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Myrtle (Sheppard) Field. She was a doting wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Happiness for Ena came from being with her family. She nurtured a family that loved being together. Anyone who joined her family over the years was made to feel like they had always been part of the family. Ena was a gifted matriarch. She was devoted to her church and was a long standing member of St. Francis by the Lakes Anglican church. Prior to starting her family, Ena worked as a teacher in outport Newfoundland as did her father before her. She was so proud that her son and grandson followed in her footsteps. She also enjoyed her time working at the Barrel of Yarn. She was fortunate enough to have many cherished friendships. Ena is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, John Porter;son John (Eileen); daughter Debbie (Robert) Sproul; daughter-in-law Kimberley Good; grandchildren Shevaun, Frederick (Courtney), Andrea (Doug), Jonathon (Emma), Meghan (Kory), Rebecca, James, Michael, Monike, Douglas and Kate; great-grandson Brayden and one great-grandson on the way; sister Elaine (Anthony) Libertini; brother Fred (Alice) Field; sister-in-law Winnifred (Reginald) Hynes; sister-in-law Victoria; nieces and nephews; extended family members, Gaetane and Elizabeth. Besides her parents, Ena was predeceased by a son in infancy, her son Gary (48) and brother Robert. Visitation will be held from 7 - 9 pm Tuesday, January 24th at Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Drive, Lower Sackville. A celebration of Ena's life will be held at 1 pm, Thursday, January 26th at St. Francis by the Lakes Anglican church, 192 First Lake Drive, Lower Sackville, Rev. Mark Kingsbury officiating. A reception will follow the service in the church hall. The family would like to thank the clergy of St. Francis by the Lakes, who have been with Ena throughout this journey, to her many friends who remain devoted, her careworkers, the VON, and the palliative care team. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to her beloved church, St. Francis by the Lakes.
