The Chronicle Herald, Halifax, July 7, 2016 Mary Rita Moriarty(October 1, 1924 - July 6, 2016) MORIARTY, MARY RITA -Halifax- After many years of living with dementia, Mary felt God's gentle touch on her shoulder and heard the words, "Come Home". God's angels ushered her into heaven on July 6, 2016. Born in St. John’s, Nfld. October 1, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Isaac and Bridget (nee Tobin ) Hayes . Mary moved to Nova Scotia as a young child, and spent the rest of her life residing in Halifax. Upon completion of a commercial training course she was employed at Industrial Machinery and the Chronicle before meeting and marrying her husband Jack, of 60 years. After raising their family, she returned to work at Dalhousie University retiring in 1989. Mary was an avid bowler into her early 80s, she enjoyed playing cards, socializing, the company of good friends and family gatherings. She leaves behind her three children, Colin (Carmel) Moriarty, Cathy (Glenn) Leiper and Paul (Lena) Moriarty, 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, John B. Moriarty, her brother Gerald Hayes, sisters Kathleen MacDonald, and Rita Hayes (infancy). The family would like to extend thanks to the palliative team and nurses at the QE II Hospital and the many caregivers from Northwood who lovingly showed Mary care and compassion. A special thank you to Shirley Brunt, who did so much to enhance Mary’s quality of life, always doing so with tenderness, love and respect. Arrangements have been entrusted to Dartmouth Funeral Home, 29 Queen Street, Dartmouth, NS. Cremation has already taken place. There will be no visitation. A celebration of Mary’s life will take place at West End Baptist Church, 1986 Preston Street, in Halifax on July 11, 2016 at 2:00 pm.
