The Chronicle Herald, Halifax, August, 22, 2016 Frances Mary Spruin(December 14, 1920 - August 16, 2016) Fran M. Spruin of Halifax passed away August 16, 2016 at her home. She was the daughter of George and Bride Winslow. Born in St. John's, Newfoundland, the family moved to Grand Falls when she was five and Fran grew up there. She moved to Halifax in 1946 and worked at Imperial Oil Ltd., as a stenographer and later as a legal secretary for the law firm of Bushell and Caldwell. Fran loved to entertain, especially the "girls", and her nieces and their friends while they attended Mount Saint Vincent University. She loved music, especially marches, and loved to dance. Fran enjoyed knitting and applied needlework. Fran is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, E. Alan Spruin, and her daughter, Barbara Spruin Adachi, and her husband, Randy of Paso Robles, California. Also, her brother, Harold Winslow and his wife, Ellen, of Grand Falls, NL; sister-in-law, Bride Winslow (William) of South River, NL; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters: Betty, Marjorie Skomorucha and Sheila Duffenais, and brothers: George (Buster), James, Robert and William. Visitation will be on Tuesday, August 23rd from 2 – 4 pm and from 7 – 8 pm at the J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 24th at 10:30 am at St. Benedict's Church, 45 Radcliffe Drive (at Dunbrack). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
