    3. It is with broken hearts that the family of the late Kevin M. Pike of St. Lawrence announces his passing. Kevin passed away at the U.S. Memorial Health Care Centre in St. Lawrence on Saturday, July 7, 2018, at the age of 87. Leaving to mourn with a lifetime of wonderful memories are his wife Emma of 65 years; sons, Kevin Jr. (Judy) of Oshawa, ON, Paul (Laura) of St. Lawrence, Gordon (Jillian) of Dunville, and Eric (Toni) of Fort St. John, BC; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brothers, Aloysius (Imelda) of Labrador City, Alexander (Arlene) of PEI, and Gerald of St. Lawrence; sisters-in-law, Gail Pike of Labrador City, Bessie Pike of St. John’s, Alma Pike of St. John’s, Lorna Pike of Ottawa, ON, and Celeste Cleary of St. John’s; plus a large circle of extended family and friends. The Cape Breton Post, July 10, 2018, Tuesday Hooper(Mullins), Elizabeth “Betty” Passed Away July 08, 2018 With broken hearts, we announce the sudden passing of our dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Betty Hooper, age 74, on Sunday, July 8, 2018 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Grand Bank, NL, on November 14, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Lawson and Myrtle (Hodder) Mullins. Betty was a devoted wife and mother who took great pride in caring for her family. She was happiest spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren or in her kitchen preparing meals and baking with them. She enjoyed reading, gardening and loved sewing and was a proud Sea Cadet Mom (#129 Caribou Sea Cadets) for over forty years. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney and a former member of the ACW. Betty is survived by her four children, Patsy (David) Murray, Ruth (Danny) Walsh, Shawn (Bonnie) Hooper, all of North Sydney and Linda Moore, Edmonton; eight grandchildren, Holly (David), Caelin (Jesse), Nathan (Crystal), Patrick, Max, Amy, Mason and Stephen (Alicia); seven great-grandchildren, Jasmine, Max, Mya, Parker, Ella, Owen and Aubrey; her companion, Ronald Robertson; son-in-law, John Moore; two brothers, Edward (Hannah) Mullins and William (Muriel) Mullins; sisters, Rosena Egan, Vera (Paul) Kavanaugh and Susan Martin; sisters-in-law, Gwen, Grace (Stephen), Marjorie and Mary; brothers-in-law, Nelson, Edward and Douglas; many nieces, nephews, and extended family. Born August 20, 1945 in Hampden, NL, she was the daughter of the late Gordon and Pansie (Regular), Hancock. Katie worked for many years as a Bus/Lunch monitor at Seton Elementary and Thompson Jr. High Schools in North Sydney. She loved spending time with children and was very proud of her work with the Breakfast Program at Thompson. She also worked at Robena’s restaurant in North Sydney and became well known for her cooking. The Chronicle Herald, Halifax, July 7, 2018 May, Phillip – Age 81 of Porters Lake It is with heaviest hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our husband, Dad and Pop, on July 2, 2018 at home, after a brief battle with cancer. Born in Point Rosie, Nfld., he was a son of the late Frederick and Theresa May. Dad left home at the age of 15 to work with J.P. Porter in Halifax. He later joined the Imperial Oil team and travelled all over the world on the oil tankers, retiring after 35 years. On January 15, 1958, he married the love of his life, Bertha Grandy. Dad was a very active member of St. Mark’s Anglican Church, Porters Lake, volunteered at Porters Lake Community Centre and Porters Lake Seniors’ Club. He looked forward to his crib nights with his buddies in the building, and breakfasts and drives with his friend, Ken Smith. Besides his wife, he leaves behind his son, Darrell (Maureen MacLean) and their children Cally and Cameron; daughters, Teresa (Hal Ellis) and their son Jason; Cathy (Richard Eaglestone) and their children Brad, Jillian and Blake; Tina (Stan Betts) and her daughter Jessica Hillier. Jillian’s children, Ellie and Emma, were Dad’s little heartthrobs. He is also survived by his oldest brother, Otto; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by stepmother, Percilla; brothers, Edwin and Lawrence; grandson, Jeffrey Ellis. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be Monday from 12:30-3 p.m. in Porters Lake Community Centre, 4693 Hwy. 7. A private family committal will be held at St. Mark’s Anglican Church with Rev. Evelyn Knorr officiating. Memorial donations may be made to St. Mark’s Anglican Church, Porters Lake. The family would like to thank the VON team who treated Dad like he was their own family, palliative care nurse, Shannon, and Dr. Erin, who went above and beyond to look after not only Dad but also the family. The Chronicle Herald, Halifax, July 7, 2018 COOMBS, Mary Frances (1927 - 2018) It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Mary (Wiseman) Coombs who passed away peacefully at the age of 91 in Northwood, Halifax, NS. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. Mary was born in Corner Brook, NL, the eldest of eight children of the late Freda and Joseph Wiseman. Predeceased by husband, Reginald Coombs; brothers, Kevin (Grace), Desmond, Jack (Audrey) Joseph Wiseman, and sister, Carmella Keller (Curt). She is survived by her loving daughter, Sheila; her loving grandchildren, grandson Marc Bailey (Xiaoyu); granddaughter Beth Grady (Aaron) and great-grandson Max; sister, Joan Wiseman; sisters-in-law, Barbara and Gayle, and many thoughtful cousins, nieces and nephews. Mary received her early education in Corner Brook, and later completed her Secretarial Arts Diploma at St. Francis Xavier University. She then graduated with her R.N. from St. Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing in Montreal, QC. She practiced nursing at Western Memorial Hospital in Corner Brook for 25 years and retired as Assistant Administrative Director. Upon retirement she lived in St. Johns NL and then in Halifax NS until her death. Special Thanks to the staff of the 3rd Floor Roach Center, Northwood who helped care for her the last two years, and to Cathy Meisner NP, as well as, Father Paul and Father Frank for their comforting prayers and blessings. There will be no visitation at Mary`s request. Cremation has taken place. Mass of the Resurrection will be held in St. Benedict Church on Radcliffe Dr., Clayton Park on July 12, 2018 at 10:30 a.m., Father Simon Lobo officiating. Reception to follow in the Church hall.
