Born in Terrenceville, NFLD on May 16, 1955 she was the daughter of the late John and Rebecca Clarke. Lorraine’s family always came first. She was her happiest when surrounded by them. The Cape Breton Post, July 25, 2018 Wednesday Burt(Burton), Sadie Passed Away: July 23, 2018 It is with sorrow we announce the unexpected death of Sadie Burt, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt, on Monday, July 23, 2018, at the Northside General Hospital. She died just days after celebrating her 97th birthday with her family. Born in Anderson’s Cove, NL, on July 18, 1921, Sadie was the daughter of her beloved parents, Rebecca (Bond) and Thomas Burton. She was an active member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church in North Sydney and a past member of the Altar Guild and Married Couples Association. Sadie was an avid knitter and excellent baker and she loved doing both for her family who were most important to her. She lived life to its fullest right up until her final moments. She had a great sense of humour and she knew what was best for her children even before they did. First and foremost Sadie was a proud Newfoundlander. She is survived by her children, Evelyn (Doug) Schaller, Sydney Forks, Margaret (Don) Cowan, London, ON, George (Donna) Burt, Bras d’Or, Susan (Fred) Rahey, Halifax, Tom Burt, Halifax, and daughter-in-law, Margaret. She is lovingly survived by her eleven grandchildren, Christine Elliott, Ian and Colin Cowan, Vaughn, Leah and Lina Burt, Rebecca and Stephen Rahey and Michael, Daniel and Katherine Burt; six great-grandchildren, Gemma, Ocean, Evan, Ella, Kinsley and Kaelyn. Also surviving is her sister and brother-in-law, Vera and Eddie Bruce; her special niece, Janie Riggs in Grand Bank, NL and many other nieces and nephews across Canada. Sadie was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her much loved husband of 73 years, George S. Burt; her parents; her sisters, Emily Melloy, Janie Piercey, Evelyn Rodgers, Dora Dominix and Elsie Munster; her brothers, James, Fred, Tom and Calvin Burton, and son-in-law, Michael Elliott. The family would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Patrick O’Grady for the care and compassion shown to both Sadie and George over the years. Also a very special thank you to Valerie and Jimmy Nelson whose loving care allowed our mother to remain in her home as she wished. Tom passed away peacefully, on July 18, 2018 at the CBRH with his loving wife of 57 years by his side, and is finally gone to a better place after years of suffering and pain. Tom was loved and admired by all who knew him. He was a kind and gentle soul, and a true Newfie till the end. Tom lived in Bay D’Espoir until 1978, when he decided to move his family to Louisbourg. Before his retirement Tom was a cutter with National Sea Products, Louisbourg. He was a member of St. Bartholomews Anglican Church. He loved music and spending time with his family whom he treasured. He is survived by his wife, Mazie (Bowles); son, Cecil (Mary Lynn); his granddaughter, the light of his life, Amanda (Ryan), also two great-grandchildren, Ethan and Mya, who were his pride and joy. He is also survived by sister, Elizabeth Lee. He is predeceased by both his parents; two sisters, and two brothers. The family would like to send a special thanks to nieces, Wavey and Glenda for their visits and boosting his spirits. Born in Whitbourne, NL, she was the daughter of the late George and Violet (Sparks) Toope. In her early years Enid lived in St. John’s, NL where she met her late husband Dennis Dobbin. They moved to Antigonish, NS and raised five children. The Chronicle Herald, Halifax, July 16, 2018 Crocker, George Crocker, George Lloyd- It is with heavy hearts, we announce the loss of our loving husband, father, grandfather and friend George Lloyd Crocker who passed away peacefully in the Palliative Care Unit at the Aberdeen Hospital, surrounded by his family after a long battle with Heart Disease and Cancer. Born in St. John’s,Nfld on July 23, 1942, he was a son of the late Greta (Max) Lawrence and Gordon Lloyd Crocker. George was a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force and the Newfoundland Constabulary. In 2001 he retired from the Trenton Police Department with over 25 years of service. After retirement, he worked part-time with the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires and could regularly be found at the Department of Motor Vehicles. With his faith in the Lord, he was an active member of the church, and enjoyed singing gospel music with others. Never idle, George always found ways to keep himself busy. He enjoyed woodworking, carpentry and many other home improvement projects. George was always ready to share one of his stories (all of them true!) with anyone willing to listen. Most of all, he loved the outdoors and was happiest when he found himself out hunting and fishing. George is survived by his wife Joan Crocker (MacIver) of 44 years, sons Christopher (Maggie), Brent (Cindy), Aaron (Annie) and Gavin (Stephanie), daughter Debbie (Blair), grandchildren Zoe, Corey, Crystal, Brandon and his very special Alexis. Brother Jim (Barb) Lawrence, chosen sister Pauline Skanes, sisters-in-law Ruth Ann and Joyce, several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his mother, father and stepfather. Special thanks to all his doctors - Rowicka, Couban, Styles, nurses at the Heart Function Clinic at the QEII. Also, the Chemo Department at the Aberdeen Hospital, as well as, Dr. Kwasnick and the compassionate and caring team in the palliative care unit at the Aberdeen Hospital. The family would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all our friends near and far for all of their support and help during this time. Cremation has taken place. No visitation at his request.     3. It is with deep sadness that the family of the late ROGER JOHN SLANEY originally of St. Lawrence announces his sudden passing on June 24, 2018 at the Cape Brenton Regional Hospital. Roger was born in St. Lawrence, NL to Herb and Therese Slaney on May 15, 1960. Roger was a man of various talents. He was an accomplished musician who shared his love of music by teaching others to play the guitar and played with many bands over the years. He was a talented soccer player and coach in his younger years. In his 30 year career with the Canadian Coast Guard; he was highly respected by his peers and was presented with immediate awards for his performance on the job. But most importantly, he was a loving man with a fantastic sense of humour and boundless compassion. People always felt like they had a special connection. He was a wonderful husband, son, father, brother and friend. Roger was predeceased by his father, Herb Slaney and he is survived by his wife, Valerie, his sons Ryan (Krista) and Tristan, his mother, Therese as well as his siblings, Christina (Jacques) Perrot, Gary Slaney, Rudy (Karen) Slaney, Lisa (Jim) Loder, Sonia (Andy) Slaney, Rodney (Barb) Slaney and Claudia (Frank) Brockerville. A celebration of his life will be held at St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church in St. Lawrence on August 2, 2018 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Vigil to be at 8:00 p.m. The funeral Mass will be on August 3rd at 2:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Mount Cecilia Roman Catholic Cemetery, St. Lawrence. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
