Age 89, of Parrsboro, and formerly of Calgary, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Harbour Grace, N.L., he was a son of the late Dennis and Mary (Lamb) Meaney. Ron was Chief Financial Auditor of Veteran's Affairs Canada retiring in 1989. He is survived by his children, Danny, Ottawa; Mary Jane "MJ" Hammer (Bob), Calgary; Steve (Glenda), Parrsboro; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; four step-grandchildren; 11 step great-grandchildren; a step great great-grandchild. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Dorothy "Dot" Whitten in 2005; siblings, Frank, Doris, Agnes, Gordon, Gerald, Clotilde, Jack, Kevin, Catherine, Eileen. Funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Friday, October 26th, in St. Brigid's Catholic Church, Parrsboro, Father Craig Christenson officiating. Reception to follow in St. Brigid's Church Hall. The Cape Breton Deaths October 20, 2018 Saturday Sampson(Haley), Madonna Marie Born: January 10, 1931 Passed: October 18, 2018 We regret to announce the peaceful passing of Madonna Marie (Haley) Sampson, age 87, on Thursday, October 18, 2018, at the Northside Community Guest Home. Born in Lamoline, Nfld., on January 10, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Phillip and Dorothy Haley. She moved to Montreal in 1947 and found employment with Woolworth's, where she remained for 35 years. It was here that she met her husband, George Sampson; they married in 1964. In 1985 they moved to Big Bras d'Or, where she became a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the BBDVFD. Madonna was an avid dart player, and loved a good game of cards. She is survived by her sisters, Bernice Blunt (Charles), Texas, and Sheila Slaney, Nfld. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Evelyn and Alice, and brothers-in-law, Frank (Bev), and Harold (Georgette); many nieces and nephews, also special grand-nephew, Stephen Jardine. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, George; sisters, Suzanne, Lucie and Bride, and brothers, Brandon, Frank, and Leo. Fran was born in Little Bay West, N.L. on September 2, 1930 to the late Charles and Pheobe (Grandy) Skinner. She was predeceased by her husband of 54 years E. L. "Ted" in 2006. Fran spent 88 years in the service of her family, church, community and her world. She was a member of the Catholic Women's League and she was an avid volunteer for the Berwick Food Bank for many years. She is survived by Ted (Joanne and their children, Teddy, Christa and Sarah); Theresa (Wayne Eagles and their children, Dana and Landis); Gerald (Pat and their children, Zach, Alex and Miranda); Wendy (Tom Chennell and their children, Chasity, Jason and Andrea); Tim (Kate and their children, Sadie, Noah and Frances); Mike (Shelly and their children, Andy and Aleesha); Jack (and his daughter, Beth); 12 great-grandchildren and nine siblings.
