The Cape Breton Post, November 6, 2018 MacLeod(Hann), Edna Passed November 03, 2018 We regret to announce that Edna (Hann) MacLeod, 82, passed away peacefully November 3, 2018 at Alderwood Rest Home in Baddeck, NS. Edna was born on Hunt's Island, NL July 12, 1936 to the late Elizabeth (Strickland) and John Hann. Their family was then re-settled to Burgeo where Edna lived until she was sixteen. She then set out to Nova Scotia with her older sister Pearl to live in Dartmouth as well as North Sydney. She met our father in North Sydney, they married in Baddeck within the year and Baddeck became our home. Edna is survived by her daughter, Liz MacNeil (Norman); son, David (Michelle), and the light of her life, granddaughter, Grace. When Grace was very young she christened Mom "Mema". This stuck and soon everyone was affectionately calling her "Mema". Edna was predeceased by her husband, Sandy; son, Donald; daughter, Noreen (Gary MacIver), son-in-law, Dan E. MacNeil who held a very special place in her heart; as well as her mother and father-in-law, Norman D. and Helen MacLeod. Edna is also survived by brothers, Aubrey (Marion), Gilbert (Hilda), Cyril (Eileen); sisters, Eileen (the late Ralph Ingram), Barbara (Clayton Blake); brother-in-law, Murdock (the late Doris); sisters-in-law, Kaye, Marjorie and Beverly MacLeod; special cousin, Eric (Dianne) Hann; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Predeceased by brothers, Martin (the late Hattie), Cecil (Margaret), Ken (the late Sadie); sisters, Pearl (the late Garfield Ingram) and Lucy (John Savoury); brother-in-law, Jack MacLeod (Nancy). Also special friend the late A. K. Ferguson. Mom was so fortunate to have many special friends in her life including Marilyn MacLeod, Nancy MacLean and Nora Crowley. In the summer, sitting on the deck at "Susan's" for coffee with her lady friends was a great treat. Indeed, sitting in the sun anytime was a great treat. Mom worked at Alderwood Rest Home for over twenty-five years so when she went to live there, it truly was her second home. When she cooked her own vegetables at noon there were always extras for the staff to nibble on. She loved the staff and it was demonstrated daily that they loved her in return. We cannot thank you enough for all you provided for Mom. Thank you to Dr.'s Chow, Genge and Stokes for your many years of caring for Mom. Edna was a member of Greenwood United Church. Cremation has taken place under the direction of MacAskill Funeral Home, Baddeck, NS. Visitation will be from 4-8 Wednesday, November 7 at MacAskill Funeral Home, Grant St., Baddeck. Funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, November 8 in Greenwood United Church, Baddeck with tea to follow. Rev. Mary Jo Harrison officiating. Family flowers only, donations may be made to Highland Cemetery, P.O. Box 682, Baddeck, NS B0E 1B0 or charity of one's choice.
