Alfred passed peacefully away at the US Memorial Hospital in St. Lawrence on December 22, 2018 at the age of 76. Left with lasting memories are: Marilyn, his wife of 46 years; sons, Duane (Amanda) of Middle Sackville; Christopher (Genevieve) of Ashburnham, Mass.; and the prides of his life, his grandchildren, Abby (and her mom Tracey), Avery, Caroline, and Lucas; brothers, Richard (Marjorie), George (Marion), Geoff (Cheryl), Roger (Rhonda), Paul; sister, June Sheppard (Roll); sister-in-law, Joyce; as well as a large circle of family and friends. Ted was predeceased by his parents, George and Mary Howse (Wesleyville, N.L.); brother, Perry; and infant sister, Patricia. Edward Howse, known to his friends and family affectionately as Ed or Ted, enjoyed a long-lasting career in the mining industry in various roles as a millwright, shovel operator and training department. He worked for IOC in Labrador City, N.L. for 32 years before retiring, but he could not shake the mining bug before coming back out of retirement to go work for Voiseys Bay and eventually Grey Rock Mining to finish off his career. Edward made his final home in Middle Sackville, but his heart was always in Wesleyville, N.L., where he had his camper, it was his own little piece of Heaven on earth. Edward touched a lot of lives in more ways than he ever realized, with his humor, kindness, and humanity towards others. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all his Tim Hortons coffee buddies. To know Jim was to know a love and kindness, a persistence and will to persevere through thick and thin - with his own special brand of vim and vigour. His greatest joys, and fondest memories, came from times spent with family and friends. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered as a family man who cherished the love, life and laughs of family and friends, the most. Left to mourn are his wife of 60 years, Sheila (Hedges); sons, Stephen (Monica), Cow Head, N.L.; and Paul (Brenda), Gander, N.L.; sister, Jean, Windsor; grandchildren, Beth, Cow Head, N.L.; Charlene (Brian), Gander, N.L., and Dwayne (Meagan), St. John's, N.L.; great-grandchildren, Carson, Aaron, Gabriel and Martin. Besides his parents, Harry and Allison (Dean) (of Newcastle on Tyne, England), Gordon was predeceased by sisters, Margaret and Cecil (Corner Brook, N.L.); and brother-in-law, Parker Regan (Windsor). Gordon worked 25 years for the Bank of Montreal, serving in Curling, Corner Brook, Botwood and St. John's, N.L., Moncton, N.B., and Halifax. He enjoyed a second career with Modern Paving in St. John's, N.L., before retiring to Hantsport. He was an active member and contributor to Avon United Church, Hantsport. He will be remembered for his gregarious laugh and participation in community activities, especially cards.
