The Chronicle Herald, Halifax, August 7, 2013 DURDLE, Claudine, 64(March 24, 1949 - August 5, 2013), of Lower Sackville, passed away August 5, 2013 at the QE II , HSC , VG Site. Born in Bell Island Newfoundland, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Stella Durdle. Claudine worked for Canada Post for 30 plus years, retiring in 2010. She was a member of the “Stitch and Bitch” club and enjoyed knitting. She also enjoyed being “The Best Nanny in the World’ and loved to spoil her granddaughter. Claudine is survived by daughter Melyssa Williams; son, Mark Williams; sister, Kathleen (Mrs. Tom Hickey), Cambridge , Ont. ; brother, Arch Durdle, Bell Island , Newfoundland; granddaughter Willow Piercey; many nieces and nephews. Claudine was predeceased by sister , Phyllis (Mrs. Ron Etheridge) and a brother Reg Durdle. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Friday August 9th at 2 pm from the chapel of Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Drive. A reception will follow in the funeral home lounge. The Cape Breton Post, August 6, 2013 Mary Edwina (Hogan) Stepaniak Born In: New Waterford Passed in: New Waterford Passed on: August 4th, 2013 Edwina Stepaniak, 68, of MacLeod Avenue, New Waterford, passed away suddenly on Sunday, Aug. 4, 2013, at the Glace Bay Hospital. Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late Edmund and Johannah ‘Josie’(Hogan) Hogan from Northern Bay, Newfoundland. Edwina was once employed at the Royal Bank several years ago. She was a very compassionate lady who loved her family. Edwina loved to cook and bake and many times made food for the CWL functions. She was a very private woman who was a great listener. Edwina also had a great sense of humour. Edwina is survived by her loving husband, Blair Stepaniak; one daughter, Tammy (Donald) MacKinnon, Sydney River; one son, David (Rhonda Beaton), Gardiner Mines; four grandchildren, Micaela, Tessa, Sarah and Noah. Also surviving is Edwina’s brother, Lawrence Hogan; her sister, Gen (Vince) Rose; brother-in-law, Ernie (Mary) Stepaniak; sister-in-law, Betty MacLean and numerous, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by her tarabish and bingo buddies in Boisdale and Mira. Edwina was predeceased by her infant son, Robert Stepaniak. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. The funeral mass officiated by Rev. Ray Huntley is Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Leonard Church followed by a reception in St. Leonard’s Hall. As an expression of sympathy for Edwina, memorial donations in her memory may be made to the Nova Scotia Heart & Stroke Association.
