The Chronicle Herald, Halifax, August 16, 2013 Wilfred Garland, age 90, passed peacefully away on Friday August 9, 2013 at the Mahone Nursing Home, Mahone Bay. Wilfred was born April 25, 1923 on Saddle Island in Hermitage Bay, NL and as a teenager moved to nearby Pushthrough, a small fishing village. Wilfred had a great love for fishing and sailing. Predeceased by his parents Matthew and Elizabeth (Skinner); wife Emily(Piercey); sons John& Cyril; grandchildren Derek & Samantha Garland; son-in-law Brian Robertson; brothers John & Cecil and sister Minnie. Leaving to mourn: sons Kevin (Anna); Howard (Claudette); daughters Alice (Tony Moore) Garland; Evelyn (Jack) Hollett; Anne (Russell) Aalders; Thelma (Garry) Rideout; 17 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren and a large circle of family and friends. Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy. # 3, Lunenburg. A memorial service to celebrate Wilfred’s life will be held Thursday, August 29th, 2013, at 2:00 pm from The Salvation Army Bridgewater Church. The Chronicle Herald, Halifax, August 16, 2013 Jean Cavell Wilson,–77(February 26, 1936 - August 14, 2013) of Bedford. After a courageous battle with cancer, Jean died peacefully at home with Russ, her loving husband, of 54 years on August 14 2013. The daughter of the late William James (W.J.) and Naomi Lundrigan, of Corner Brook, NL, Jean is survived by husband Russ; daughter, Susan Wilson; Sons Tim and Andrew Wilson and daughter in law, Heather Wilson. She leaves behind her grandchildren Boaz Nichols and Jessica Wilson. She is survived by her sisters, Eva Jennings; Evelyn (Roy) Brown; Mary (Reg) Finn; Ruby Gullage; Josephine (Bill) Kennedy; Effie (Ralph) Humble; and brother, Tom Lundrigan (Peggy); brother in law, Gerald (Joan) Wilson; sisters in law, Betty Lewis, Ida Lundrigan and Beverly Lundrigan; lifelong friend, Shirley Bartlett, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. Jean is predeceased by her brothers Arthur, Max, Harold, and Bill Lundrigan. Jean graduated from the Salvation Army Grace Hospital in Saint John’s, NL as a registered nurse and practiced at the Western Memorial Hospital. She later managed her own small restaurant business in Corner Brook. Jean was always a source of strength and inspiration and was one of those very special people who made an indelible mark on all those who were blessed to know her. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and support staff at the QEII Health Sciences Center for their kindness, compassion and expert care. A heartfelt thank-you to Roz Benoit, Heart Function Clinic at the QEII and VON Nursing staff. There will be a memorial service at Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Drive, Monday August 19 2013 at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in the memory of Jean to the QEII Health Sciences Centre Foundation.

Leaving to mourn daughters Sheila Pardy of Port au Bras, Clara Moulton of Lewin's Cove and Sherry Power (Karl) of Port au Bras; grandchildren Petrina, Preston, Melissa, Blair, Shane, Brittany and Emilee; great grandchildren Brandon, Taylor, Colton and Ben; brother Chesley Abbott (Linda) plus a large circle of other family and friends.
