The Chronicle Herald, Halifax, October 24, 2013 Emilie Davis Emilie Davis died on October 17, 2013 at Harbour View Haven, Lunenburg, her home for the past few years. Emilie was born on June 25th, 1926 the youngest child of Millie and Jonathan Davis of St. John’s, Newfoundland. She was the sister of the late Eleanor Williams of Lunenburg and aunt to Eleanor’s children, Jane Williams (the late Gilles Caron) of Montreal, Megan Williams of Lunenburg, Peter Williams (Jude) of Halifax and Mary Williams (Robert Lecker) of Montreal. She is also survived by her brother Harry Davis (Joan) of London, Ontario and many other nieces and nephews, the children of Harry and of her late brother Arthur Davis. She spent her entire working career in St. John’s, the majority of that time at Newfoundland Broadcasting. Following her retirement, she came to Lunenburg in 1988 to take up residence with Eleanor. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home,11213 Hwy #3, Lunenburg and from where a memorial service will be held on Monday October 28th at 4:00 p.m. Following the service family and friends are invited to Emilie’s former home on Broad Street for a supper.

Born in Fortune, Nfld., she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Elizabeth (Martin) Douglas. Surviving are her daughters, Barb (Jim) Foley, Hamilton, Ont., Kay (Steve) Divinski, Grimsby, Ont. and Colleen (Lawrence) Blois, Westmount; son, Herb (Catherine), Blacketts Lake; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Susannah was predeceased by her husband, Herb; son, Doug; sister, Nel Lake and brothers, Clyde, Ronald, Spencer and Fred. There will be no visitation. A family graveside service will be held at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens at a later date. Bill passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family, after a hard battle with cancer. Born in Harbour Breton, Fortune Bay, Nfld. he was the son of the late William Chapman Sr. and Ernestine (Kelly) Chapman. Bill spent fifty years of his life as a hardworking fisherman, and presently employed with Ocean Choice International, Riverport. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 23, Lunenburg for which he was dedicated and enjoyed very much. He brought a smile to everyone’s face that he met and had a heart of gold to go with it. The Chronicle Herald, Halifax, October 21, 2013 Louise O'Connell(July 22, 1915 - October 18, 2013) O’Connell (Moulton), Mary Louise Age 98, of Dartmouth, passed away peacefully October 18, 2013 in Parkland at the Lakes nursing home. Born July 22, 1915 in Burgeo Newfoundland, she was the daughter of the late William Herbert (of Carbonear) and Mary Catherine (Greene, of St John’s) Moulton. She was predeceased by her sister Catherine (‘Babs’ La Fave) and brothers Randall, Gordon, Sydney and George (‘Bert’). She is survived by her beloved husband of 60 years, Richard; son Stephen (Annette), Calgary; grandchildren Jessica and Elizabeth, Calgary, and numerous nieces and nephews. Louise moved with her parents from Burgeo to North Sydney as a young child. After graduating from St. Joseph’s High School, where she won the award for highest academic achievement, she moved to Halifax and attended Miss Murphy’s Business college. During WWII, she worked for the Defense Department in the mobilization unit in Halifax and St. John. During that time, she met her future husband, Dick. Following the war, she worked at Canada Revenue Agency for many years. After retirement from CRA, she worked at the Girl Guides store in Halifax. She was a faithful member of St Paul’s parish for 60 years. Her grand children were a tremendous joy in her life. Visitation will be held Monday October 21 from 7 – 9 PM in Dartmouth Funeral Home, 29 Queen St. Funeral mass will be held at St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, 197 Windmill Road, Dartmouth on Tuesday October 22 at 10 AM. Alton was born in Rocky Harbour, Newfoundland on September 30, 1965. He was one of six children of James Alton Conrad Payne (d. 1986) and Pauline Blanche Payne (Shears) of Rocky Harbour. He graduated from Holy Cross High School in Daniel's Harbour, Newfoundland and earned a Bachelor of Science with honors in Geology from Memorial University. Alton was married to Holly Payne (Mills) on July 14, 2012; they had only just celebrated their first anniversary. He will be remembered as a generous man; a committed family man, devoted husband and a loving father to Hannah and step-father to Paige. Among his favourite times were those he spent with Hannah even if it was just driving her to school or taking in a movie. He cherished time with his extended family in his adopted province and back "home" in Newfoundland. His friends were friends for life and will remember him as loyal and true. A musician and an active man, Alton loved motorcycles, snow mobiles, cars and guitars and collected a few of each over the years. He enjoyed a party and an occasional "Fresca". He loved to travel but was happiest at home, in Rocky Harbour or on his adopted farm in Hants County with family. He had a passion for business and loved to "close a deal". Alton will be sorely missed and fondly remembered by the many people whose lives he touched and enriched. Visitation in Nova Scotia will be held at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax on Friday, October 18th from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm and from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Memorial service will also be at J.A.
