    1. [NL-ROOTS] Obituary - Bartlett(Skinner), Emma Florence
    2. Bill Cook
    3. The Cape Breton Post, Novem, ber 6, 2013 Emma Florence (Skinner) Bartlett Born In: Miller's Passage Fortune Bay on: July 27th, 1925 Passed in: Louisbourg on: November 5th, 2013 It is with great sadness that we regret to announce the passing of a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, Emma 'Emmie' Florence (Skinner) Bartlett. Mom passed away at her home in Louisbourg on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013, with her son Clayton by her side. Emmie was the daughter of the late Daniel and Bertha (Abbott) Skinner. She was born on July 27, 1925, in Miller’s Passage, Fortune Bay, Newfoundland, and lived there until 1957 when she, her husband Murdock and children Clayton and Rita moved to North Sydney and then to Louisbourg where she and Murdock lived the remainder of their lives. Although she was very proud to be a resident of Louisbourg, she remained a “loyal Newfoundlander”. Emmie leaves behind her son Clayton and daughter-in-law Linda of Mira. She also leaves behind her granddaughter Krista of Calgary and her grandson Morgan (Alana) and special great-granddaughter Myla of Mira — they were her pride and joy and she loved them all dearly. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Myrtle Skinner of Halifax and many nieces and nephews. Mom was the last surviving member of her immediate family and, besides her parents, she was predeceased by the "love of her life" Murdock (1991), her husband of 45 years, her daughter, Rita Mildred (1960) and a son in infancy. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Charles James (Mary), William (Alice) and Clayton Skinner. Emmie was a dedicated stay-at-home wife and mother who loved her family above all else and who was happiest when cooking and baking for them. She was an excellent cook and baker and in her middle years went to work at the Fortress View Restaurant in Louisbourg — a job she loved and where she made many wonderful friends. She liked nothing better than playing cards and bingo and participating in all the social events at the Louisbourg Senior’s Club where she was a member. Before her illness prevented her from doing so, she could always be found with knitting needles in her hands. She loved Mira and looked forward to her many good card games and dinners “out-on-the Mira”. Emmie was a dedicated member of St. Bartholomew’s Anglican Church in Louisbourg and was very involved in the ACW of which she was a life member. She cherished her daily phone chats and long distance phone calls with her family and friends. In her earlier years she loved nothing better than attending Krista’s and Morgan’s ball games and speedskating events and was their greatest fan. The family would like to thank Dr. Wawrzyszyn and Patsy at the Louisbourg Medical Centre, the VON, the City Homemakers, the Palliative Care Team with a special thank you to Beth Latham. A huge thank you is also extended to her caregivers for all their love and support which enabled Emmie to remain in her home. Visitation for Emmie will take place at Chant’s Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, on Thursday, Nov. 7 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Visitation will also take place on Friday, Nov. 8 from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at St. Bartholomew’s Church in Louisbourg with a Celebration of Life to follow at 2 p.m. with Rev. Laura McCue and Rev. Lydia MacKinnon officiating. Interment to follow in the parish cemetery. Donations in Emmie’s memory may be made to the local Branch of the (VON) Victorian Order of Nurses, Palliative Care or a charity of choice. Online condolences may be sent to our web page at www.chantfuneralhome.com.
