    3. The Chronicle Herald, Halifax, November 16, 2013 Loran John Hackett(1937-2013) Age 75, Loran passed away peacefully in Maplestone Nursing Home, Halifax. Loran was born in Woods Island, Newfoundland and the eldest son of the late Aloysius and Florence Hackett. He enjoyed talking about his years as a commercial fisherman and miner with JC MacIssac Mining. Loran spent 15 years with his loving partner Alice Butler which extended his family and provided him with more grand "kiddies". He is survived by sons, Vince (Wendy), Halifax; Paul (Betty) Winnipeg; daughter Sherri Lynn (Al), Middle Sackville; brother, Tom, Newfoundland. He loved his grandchildren dearly, Rhonda-Lee, Vanessa, Richard, Andrew, Samantha and Lucas; great grandchildren Tyler, Matthew and Madison; and he had a special place in his heart for his nieces and nephews in Newfoundland. Loran was predeceased by his brother, Aloysius; wife and mother of his children, Lorraine; and second wife, Caroline. As per his wishes, Loran was cremated and a celebration of life will take place Monday November 18 at 2p.m. in J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd. (477-5601) 149 Herring Cove Rd., Major Kirk MacLeod officiating. Interment to take place at a later date in Newfoundland. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Red Cross or charity of one’s choice. Loran’s family would like to send their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Hale Court, Maplestone Nursing Home, and to QE II 8.4 unit.

The Chronicle Herald, Halifax, November 15, 2013 HARRIS, Fannie Rose (Bellman) "Rose"; loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many passed away on November 13th at the age of 93. Rose was born December 20, 1919 in Grand Bank, Newfoundland to Captain James Curtis (Belbin) Bellman and Eleanor Ann Noseworthy. At 8 years of age she experienced the earthquake and tidal wave that devastated much of the coast of the Burin peninsula. She later moved with her family to Halifax and then to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. An athlete from an early age, she was recognized by the Yarmouth Sports Hall of Fame as part of the gold medal winning swimming and basketball teams that brought recognition to Yarmouth from 1935 to 1938. Later, with her husband Everett Harris, she honed her skills in golf. She was a member of the Spalding Hole in One Club and a repeat ladies champion at the Yarmouth Golf Club. She was an avid bridge player, winning several trophies. Rose was famous for her skills as a cook and was gifted in her ability to create a fine dining experience with basic ingredients. Her apple pie was legendary in her wide circle of friends and family. Rose is survived by her children Lorenzo (Sharon) Harris, Susan (Pat) Eldridge, David (Coral) Harris, and Judy (David) Sollows, grandchildren Kim, Karrie, Cathy, Stuart, Scott, Susan, Michael, Michelle, Jake, Cody, Clark and Adam as well as several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by sisters Annie in childhood and Gwen (Huston), brothers Wilson and Lorenzo Bellman, husband Everett, daughter Eleanor and son James. There will be no visitation at Rose’s request. A celebration of her life will be held at Beacon United Church on Saturday, November 16th at 2:00 pm with Rev A. D “Bill” Newell and Rev. Sharon Lohnes officiating. Interment will follow in Chebogue Cemetery. Family flowers only please. Donations in Rose’s memory may be made to the Congregational Church of Chebogue Preservation Society or a charity of choice. Born on March 12th, 1939, in Lance Cove, Bell Island, Newfoundland, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Mary (Hiscock) Clemens. Marg is survived by her husband of 53 years, Aloysius “Al” J. Keating; their children, Robert Keating and wife, Katrina Stevens, Battersea, Ontario; Karen Keating and husband, David Harvey, Newport Corner; Michael Keating, Newport Corner; grandchildren, Nikolas, Jessica, Shane, Kelsey, and Brodie; brothers, William (Nancy), John (Marion), Gordon (Jackie), Edward (Linda); sisters, Emma (George) Horwood; Sally (Gerald) Kitchen; Mabel (Cyril) Keating; Joyce (Gerry) Gamble; Lillian (Roy) Nicholas; Dorothy (Robert) Locke; Eva (Fred) Cobb; Barbara (Stewart) Bickford and Nita (Kevin) Byrne; numerous nieces and nephews.     3. The Chronicle Herald, Halifax, November 15, 2013 DUTTON, Patrick F. (March 29, 1942 - November 13, 2013) Passed away at Evergreen Home for Special Care in Kentville, NS. Pre-deceased by parents Lawrence V. and Nora (Griffin), beloved daughter Kerri, brothers Larry and Kevin, parents-in-law Don and Edith (Joudrey) Perry, sister-in-law Nellie (Gale) Dutton, brother-in-law Donnie Perry. Survived by wife Pam (Perry), sons Sean (Lydia) and Craig (Suzette Hayden), cherished granddaughters Emily and Nila, siblings Dermot "Don" (Margaret Shortt), Frank (Judith Hurrell), Dianne (Lachlan Munroe), Brendan (Deanne Shute), Philomena and John (Cathy Green), as well as numerous in-laws, nephews, nieces, grand-nephews and grand-nieces. Pat was born in St. John's, Newfoundland, grew up at Fort Townshend and Spencer Street, and was educated at St. Patrick's Hall School, Memorial University of Newfoundland (BA, BAEd '63) and the University of Southern Mississippi (MEd '89). From 1963-1965 he taught at Gonzaga High School in St. John's. In 1965 he moved to Labrador City and taught for two years at Labrador City Collegiate. There he met Pam Perry, where they were married in 1967. They moved to Goose Bay, NL that year when he became Principal of St. Michael's School, a position he held for 15 years; the Pat Dutton Leadership Award was established at the school in his name. From 1967 to 1970 he was also Principal of the Catholic side of Robert Leckie High School. Their three children were born in Happy Valley, NL. In 1982 he moved to the Labrador Roman Catholic School Board office as a Program Coordinator. He retired in 1992. He and Pam then moved to Coldbrook, NS. He later worked as a consultant for the Labrador North Chamber of Commerce on the environmental review of military flight training in Labrador, and with the Apple Tree Foundation/Kings Regional Rehabilitation Centre in Waterville, NS as a fundraiser. Dutton Place at the Rehab Centre was named in his honour in 2009. Pat was active in the Newfoundland Teachers Association. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He served five years as President of the Newfoundland Golf Association and Coach of the Provincial Junior Men's Team, and was Captain of the Willingdon Cup Amateur Men's team. He was a founder of the Melville Music Festival and Chaired the Kings County Music Festival. He served as President of the Rotary Clubs of Happy Valley-Goose Bay and of Kentville, and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was President of the Annapolis Valley Chapter of Mothers Against Drinking and Driving and was involved in the Kings Crime Prevention Association; in 2000 Pat was winner of MADD's National Volunteer of the Year Award, and he received the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002. He and Pam moved to Berwick, NS in 2011. He spent the last year of his life at the Evergreen Home, where he received excellent care provided with kindness by the staff of Second West. Visitation Friday, November 15 from 7pm to 9pm at White Family Funeral Home, 100 Cornwallis Street, Kentville. Funeral Mass Saturday, November 16 at 10am at St. Anthony's Parish, 122 Mill Street, Berwick. Father Craig Cameron will officiate. Interment to follow at Berwick Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Pat's memory to Parkinson Society Canada www.parkinson.ca. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.

    3. The Chronicle Herald, Halifax, November 13, 2013 Harry Durnford(November 21, 1935 - November 10, 2013) Durnford, Harry – 77 of Dartmouth passed away peacefully at home on November 10, 2013. Born in Rencontre West, NL. he was the son of Abraham and Rosanna (Ford ) Durnford. Harry retired as a research technician from DREA in 1991. He was co-founder of the Bullbird Club (Newfoundland Club) and a long-time member of Grace United Church. Harry enjoyed being in the kitchen cooking, playing cards and darts, his flower gardens, camping and berry picking. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren. Surviving are his wife and best friend of 57 years Florence (Green) Durnford, daughter, Brenda (Mike) Mulherin, Fredericton, sons, David (Rita) Durnford, Lower Sackville, Rodney Durnford, Porters Lake, sister, Dorothy Green, Dartmouth, grandchildren, Andrew, Patrick, Kimberley, Emily, Mathew, Kyle and Evan. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 14 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm in Atlantic Funeral Home 771 Main Street, Dartmouth where funeral service will be on Friday, November 15 at 2pm in the funeral home chapel, Rev. Stephen Fram officiating. Family flowers only. Donations in memory of Harry can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
