ROY KEEPING (1931-2013) It is with great sadness that the family of the late ROY KEEPING of Harbour Mille announces his passing at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre in Burin, on Sunday, December 22, 2013, at the age of 82. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories son Morris of Harbour Mille; daughters Evelyn Pardy (Herbert) of Harbour Mille, Esther Pardy (Aubrey) of Grand Prairie, AB, Marjorie Myles (Ernie) of Brooks, AB, Christine Nepinak of Grand Prairie, AB and Cathy Ann Keeping (Chesley House) of Harbour Mille; sisters Katherine Barnes (Frank), Madeline Barnes and Janet Pardy (Roy); brothers James (Florence) and Reginald (Ena); 13 grandchildren Wendy, Cyril, April, Shannon, Adrienne, Joy, Mandy, Jamie, Elaine, Hope, Riley, Wyatt and Crystal; 17 great-grandchildren; plus a large circle of relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Alma; parents Harvey and Janet Keeping; son-in-law Wallace Nepinak; brother-in-law Wilson Barnes; sisters Lucy Boudreau, Ann Kelland and baby sister Esther. Resting and visitation will take place from St. Mary’s Anglican Church in Harbour Mille on Monday, December 23, beginning at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 24, all day and December 25, at a time to be announced. The Funeral Mass will take place on Thursday, December 26, at a time to be announced. Interment will follow at the Anglican Cemetery in Harbour Mille. Bonnie Sheryl Roff (February 22, 1964 – December 20, 2013) Passed away at her home in Mortier, on Friday, December 20, 2013 Bonnie Sheryl Roff, nee Matthews, age 49 years of Grand Bank. The Chronicle Herald, Halifax, December 19, 2013 Fred Carter(October 7, 1939 - December 17, 2013) Frederick Tilley Carter (October 7,1939 – December 17th, 2013) – One of the finest men anyone could have the privilege of calling husband, Dad, Grandad, and friend has passed away peacefully at the age of 74. Born in Port Union, Newfoundland to the late Frederick and Alma Carter (nee Shepherd), he moved to Cambridge Ontario at the age of 7 and became a Nova Scotian upon joining the Navy at age 18 where he had a 30 year career. Fred met the love of his life Joanne (nee Whymark) and they were married in April of 1961. They resided in Shelburne in the early years while Fred was deployed to the base there. They made many life-long friends and this was a time of their lives that they cherished deeply. Fred built their family home on Aspen Crescent, Lower Sackville where he and Joanne resided with their family for 42 years. Later Fred sailed on the HMCS Bonaventure and instructed at the Naval School in Halifax, a position that he loved. His last posting was as Coxswain of the HMCS Iroquois. Although he was a stickler for the rules he was known as a fair and compassionate leader. He was well respected by those he was in charge of and those to whom he reported. Before he lost his ability to speak, Fred was actively involved in his church as a choir member and also often manned the sound booth and taught others to do the same. Fred's greatest joy was always first and foremost his family and friends. He answered all calls for help, often quietly behind the scenes. Although diagnosed with Parkinson's in his early 40's, he soldiered on bravely, with great grace and courage and an amazing sense of humour. Fred was predeceased by his mother Alma Carter, his sister Ella, and his beautiful daughter Kelly Mullen. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Joanne, son Derek (Geoffrey Watson), brother George (Mary), daughter-in-law Kimberly, son-in-law Randall Mullen along with six grandchildren Christopher, Emma, Hilary (Carter), Andrew, Geoffrey, Sara (Mullen) of Halifax, Ottawa, and Kentville. Fred's family is so very thankful for the wonderful care he received from first a homecare team and then staff of Ocean View Continuing Care Centre. His care and the continuing care of his beloved wife Joanne has truly been second to none and has been given with the utmost of professionalism, compassion and respect. A special thanks to two very special friends for their constant love and support – Bill Marlow and Irene Hire. Funeral arrangements for Dad (Fred Carter) are with J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive , Halifax (455-0531). Visitation on Friday, December 20th from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9. The funeral service will be Saturday morning at 10 a.m., also at J.A. Snow's. This will be a celebration of Dad's life and of the Christmas Season. Dad loved celebrating Christmas with his family, and always went "all out". We are sad but we his family will be together and celebrating Christmas as usual just with one empty place at the dinner table.
