The Chronicle Herald, Halifax, January 24, 2014 John Danial Meagher(April 13, 1955 - January 21, 2014) Meagher, John Danial- Our brother passed away January 21,2014, after lengthy illnesses at the Halifax Infirmary. He was predeceased by our father, (Captain ret'd) Thomas Francis Meagher and mother, Elizabeth Grady Scheider, and our sister, Mary Meagher McLennon. John was born in St. John's, Nfld and was the fourth child in the family. We travelled around the Maritimes in several locations to follow our father's work in the army. He attended St. Patrick's High School and then went to work for our father at Dalhousie University. Next he worked in the Marine Industry in Halifax, the Arctic and the Great Lakes. He was a member of Canadian Marine Officers Union. He carried on to work on land with an excavating company in Halifax. He was injured on the job and remained disabled for the rest of his life. John loved the outdoors including hunting, fishing, camping and boating. He was a very intelligent man who loved reading about history and studying all kinds of maps. He loved to learn about many different subjects. He was able to carry on a conversation with anyone about anything. He enjoyed our large family gatherings throughout the years. He was a very generous man and had a very dry sense of humour. He is and always will be remembered by his siblings; brother, Thomas Robert Meagher (his sons, Charlie and Jason), sister, Susan Meagher Gagnon, husband, Mike (daughter, Lori Gagnon and her daughter, Maggie), daughter, Jennifer (son, Ellyott) and son, Master Seaman Pierre Gagnon and his wife, Tamara (and their daughter, Jaelynne and son Callen Gagnon) and sister, Barbara Jean Meagher. Mary's children (Leslie and Ian McLennon) also have fond memories of John. John's friends played a very important role in his life: John and Cheryl Doucette, Allan and Carolyn Gibson, Peter Ritchie, Tony Power, and many other friends. Thanks to Barb's friend Wendy Bauer for her kindnesses at the hospital. We, the family, would like to express our thanks to the Doctors, Nurses and Staff of the Halifax Infirmary's Emergency Department, and units 8.2 and 5.2 for their most competent and compassionate care for our brother. Also thank you to Social Workers, Amy Fredericks, MSW, and Colleen Barron, MSW, for their assistance and support. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 26, 2014 from 2-3 pm in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, (455-0531). A Celebration of John's Life will be held immediately following. James Drake (bc 1840), presumably originally RC, married Hannah Fiander (bc 1835) (widow Young) first in May 1868 Belleoram Church of England and then again in Nov 1868 in the St Bernards RC records. Hannah was converted to RC on the same date she married James and a dau Mary Ann was also baptized RC on their wedding day. Hannah was first married 1854 (Anglican) to John Young and had 4 children baptized Anglican from 1855 to 1862. She and James also had at least 4 children from 1868 to 1876, all baptized Roman Catholic. Seeking both the parents (and any known siblings) of both James Young bc 1840 presumably in the Belleoram - St Jacques area, and the parents (and any known siblings) of Hannah Fiander bc 1835 St Jacques. She died 1919 at St Jacques. Elsie E. Reid (October 26, 1919 - January 22, 2014) It is with great sadness the family of Elsie D. Reid of Bain Harbour announces her passing at Burin Peninsula Health Care Center on January 22, 2014, at the age of 94 years. Leaving to mourn son Hayward (Alice) of Grand Bank; daughter Joyce (Leo) of Baine Harbour, 11 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 2 Great great grandchildren; daughters-in-law Daphne Lake and Elizabeth Reid; special friend and homecare worker Mary Vaters plus a large circle of other family and friends. Predeceased by brother Cyril Whittle; sister Beulah Kenway ; Children Morgan and Leslie and husband Roy Reid. Resting at St. Mark's Anglican Church, Baine Harbour Thursday 7-9 pm and all day Friday. Funeral Service Saturday at 2 pm with interment following at Anglican Cemetery, Baine Harbour. Donations in her memory may be made to St. Mark's Anglican Church or flowers gratefully accepted. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, Burin.
