    1. [NL-ROOTS] Seeking Volunteers To Transcribe
    2. Chris Shelley
    3. Hello, I was wondering if there are any "Listers" out there that would be interested in doing some transcribing of Obits that are in image form. I am doing some organizing and came across about 195 images of Obits from Obitssearch (when it still existed) that need to be transcribed. I have others in different folders, but that can be another project, as I organize. Almost all of them are from the Goulds/Petty Harbour/Cape Broyle/Ferryland/Southern Shore areas, but a few are not. The date range is about mid 80's - mid 90's Here is my idea: If there are about 19 folks that are willing to participate, I can send approx. 10 images to each person to transcribe. As they are transcribed, we can share them with the other participants. If you are interested in participating, you can e-mail me directly at [email protected] As a side note, I would be interested in any images that folks may have that they are willing to share. Thank you, Chris

For 25 years, Jack was also a well-respected maintenance employee for Sobey’s Prince Street in Sydney, retiring in 1989. With great pride and perfection, Jack was always attentive to any task at hand; he was “Jack” of all trades and a ‘master’ of them all, especially the fine craftsmanship of building beautiful wooden models of the Bluenose with every intricate detail in place. This was a hobby he embarked on with his nephew, William “Bill” Dicks and wife, Wanda, whom he resided with in George’s River after the loss of his beloved wife, Julie in April 1996. His fine art of model boat building was recognized in the community and they stand proudly on many mantels of family and friends. Jack was a member of the North Sydney Pensioners Club and resided at Central Court, Stanley Street prior to his admission to Harbourview. Jack is survived by his youngest sister, Laura Gossen and niece, Kelly, Vancouver, B.C., many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Julie (May); sisters, Katherine (Frank) Dicks, Bridget (Bill) White and Mary (Bill) Green. Special ‘thanks’ to everybody at Central Court, Stanley Street, for always looking out for Jack. Your kindness and concern will never be forgotten. Special thanks to the nursing staff of 5 East at the Northside General, to Dr. Paul Hickey and secretary, Lori for your helpfulness, care and kindness always. Thank you to the Palliative Care staff for putting Jack`s comfort first. Thank you to the Veteran’s Unit staff for making Jack`s short stay comfortable. Thanks, also, to the Northside Homemakers and VON for your care. Thanks to Sandra Smith for your professional foot care. Visitation for Jack will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, August 24th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will take place in St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, King St., North Sydney on Thursday, August 25th at 11 a.m., with Archdeacon Brenda Drake officiating. You were blessedly reliable, predictably pleasant. We loved and treasured You. The Family. Rest in Peace ``Uncle Jack``
