Born in Mount Moriah, NL, she was the daughter of the late Don and Sylvia (Gilliam) Morrison. Survived by her sons Todd, Orangeville ON, Reg (Paulette), Dartmouth NS and Sean (Michelle), Kawarthas ON. Marie (known mostly as Mudder, Ma or Nana by her family) loved them dearly, especially her grandchildren, Devyn and Danika, Brandon and Aaron, and Justin. Also survived by her sisters Phyllis (Glenn) Wilding, Joan King (Ken), Judy Morrison all of ON, Donna (Jim) Turner NS, and her brothers Jerry Morrison and Larry Morrison both of BC. Also survived by her roommate Delores (Nanny) Theriault (Golden Girls). Predeceased by siblings Frank Morrison, Neta Allen and Irene Boudreau. Visitation will be held in A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland St. Friday, Feb 10th from 7pm-9pm. Funeral to be held in SonLife Community Church, officiated by Pastor Glenn MacLean, 152 Windmill Rd. JA Snow Funeral Home, Halifax, Nova Scotia Ian Alexander Rankin(June 15, 1938 - January 26, 2017) Ian Alexander McConnan Rankin, age 78, of Halifax, passed away on Thursday, January 26th, 2017 at home with his family by his side. Born in St. John's, NF, he was the son of the late Eric and Leila Rankin. Ian was a loving husband, father and grandfather; and was greatly admired by all who knew him. He was an avid reader and had amassed an extensive library based on his interests. He had a passion for model railroading and has a vast collection of trains including a garden railway that was a source of joy for him and his eight grandchildren, who were the light of his life. Ian served in the Royal Canadian Naval Reserve and studied at Memorial University of Newfoundland. A town planner by profession, Ian maintained his MCIP designation, and was a past member of the board of governors of TUNS. Ian is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Carole (McGrath) and his three sons, David (Tracey) of Bedford, NS, Jonathan (Tracey) of Chapel Hill, NC, and Andrew (Lisa) of Bedford, NS. His grandchildren, Felicity, Hillary, Alexander, Jack, Christopher, Liam, Bennett and Imogen, will dearly miss him. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at 2 P.M., J.A Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, NS, Reverend Kenn Stright officiating, reception to follow. The Chronicle Herald, Halifax, February 7, 2017 William Joseph "Bill" English(September 18, 1942 - February 5, 2017) It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of ENGLISH, William Joseph “Bill”, of Halifax, formerly of St. John’s/ Goulds, NL, on February 5, 2017 at the QE2 hospital, Halifax NS. Born in Branch, St. Mary’s Bay, NL, he was the only son of the late Joseph and Mary (Campbell) English. Bill was a plumber and pipe fitter, but was always first to lend a hand to any project that needed his help. He travelled across Canada to provide for his family, finishing his working career at the Bay Bulls Water treatment plant in Newfoundland for 28 years prior to his retirement. He and Doreen left their beloved Newfoundland 3 years ago for Halifax to be closer to their 3 daughters, returning to Newfoundland often to visit his two sons. Bill will always be remembered for his ability to mesmerize a room with his stories, his infectious laugh, his indomitable spirit in any argument, an amazing knowledge of history, his love of a hot cup of tea, and his deep and abiding passion for Newfoundland. He was a ferocious card player, and loved playing with the men’s group in his building. He enjoyed a lifetime of fishing and hunting, and relished spending time outdoors with friends and family. Bill is survived by his wife of 51 years, Doreen (Sears); daughters Susan English-Thompson (Rodney), Charlotte English-Roberts (Doug), Karen (David) Roddis; sons, Keith (Elaine), Derrick (Tracy); grandchildren, Joey, Jessica, and Joshua English, Victoria, Miranda, and Gabriel Thompson, Taylor, and Brooklyn Roberts, Benjamin and Grace Roddis, Olivia and Matthew English. He is also survived by his sister Francina (Francis) McGrath, St. John’s, NL, and many nieces and nephews and extended family in Branch, NL. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 pm on Wednesday February 8th, in Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Drive, Lower Sackville. The funeral mass will take place at 11 am on Thursday February 9th in St John Vianney Parish, 4 Beaver Bank Rd, Lower Sackville. Reception to follow. She was predeceased by husband, Fred; son, Robert; sister, Lucy MacNeil; brothers, Tom and Bill. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Cremation has taken place and keeping with Edith’s wishes there will be no visitation. Born in Mose Ambrose, Newfoundland on November 7, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Hilda (Knott) Day. In her early adulthood, she relocated to North Sydney and soon thereafter started a family. Years later, when the youngest of her five children started school, Vivian joined the workforce, employed with Sobeys for many years. Mom loved her grandchildren. Being called “Nan” was her greatest life accomplishment. Vivian is lovingly remembered by her family, daughters, Janice Steele; granddaughter, Meghan, Cheryl MacDonald; grandchildren, Joe, Morgan and Brenna (father Brian), Laurie (Danny) Holic; grandchildren, Jordan and Kendra, son Shawn Steele (Karen); grandchildren, Jack, Mark and Julianne; grandchildren, Cheyenne and Matthew Steele (mother Kathy), and sisters, Mary (Derek) Hounsell, Halifax and Annette (Roy) Bennett, North Sydney.
