    1. [NL-ROOTS] Burin Peninsula Obituary(FITZPATRICK)
    2. H Grandy
    3. 1947-2020 It is with broken hearts that the family of the late VIOLET FITZPATRICK of St. Lawrence announces her passing. Violet Margaret passed away peacefully on February 21, 2020 at the US Memorial Hospital in St. Lawrence, Newfoundland and Labrador. With great sadness, Violet leaves behind her beloved and cherished husband of 53 years Gerald, and her four dearly loved children Mark (Donna) , Lori (Jamie), Janis, and Paul. Also, missing their beautiful ‘Nanny’ is Violet’s six grandchildren; Alexandra and Abagail, Ryan and Kiera, Declan, and Hailey. All of whom she was so very proud of and loved so very much. Violet will be dearly missed by her best friend and confidant, her Auntie Margaret Pike. Also missing Violet desperately is her dedicated and sweet pup, Beau. Violet was predeceased by her loving parents Levi and Mildred Pike, and her adored brother Perry. Violet leaves to mourn her eight sisters; Maxine, Marlene and Diane, Connie , Donna, Debbie, Cate, and Valerie , along with her brother Levi, and their families. Violet will be missed by many extended family and friends in Newfoundland, throughout Canada, and in neighbouring countries. So many lives were touched by her special presence. Violet’s journey on this planet was heartfelt and was lead by her passion to ‘give’. Violet understood, more than most, that giving is how love can uplift another’s spirits. Her acts, whether a generous package to be unwrapped, a homemade jar of jam or baking for a neighbour, or an envelope of tithing and charity were always presented with such love. Violet gifted many by her stoic words and company and was always lead by bravery and courage, along with her quiet loyalty. Violet modestly gave to those she loved and she quietly gave to those in need , both in her community and in countries afar. Violet’s life was a humble example of charity. That of which the planet requires to sustain the beauty of humanity. She always gave without expectation, knowing a small gesture is amplified by the intent of love. Violet’s enormous heart along with her stunning beauty, of which she was so unaware, was what captured and held the heart of her sweet partner in life, Gerald. Their marriage held a legacy of much laughter and of commitment, through all of the good times... and the challenging ones too. Gerald carried her in so many moments of overwhelming joy and in life’s heartache. And she carried him right back. Violet gave to others her whole life. Gerald, while having many moments of encouragement and some moments of recommended balance, knew that others needed Vi’s gestures of confidence, love and compassion. He trusted her path. Their communion of love was a sweet balance of unequivocal and intimate admiration. This is....love. The kind of love that entangles it’s self on one side of a big bed late every evening, and holds on tightly until morning. The kind of love that carries us through the joys and hardships of the day ahead. The kind of love that is quietly supernatural.....and beautiful. Gerald once said of Violet " ...her love so big for so many, and so powerful, that she had to keep in the bottom of her stomach in fear that it would travel to her heart and be too much..." He was correct of course. Her soft heart could not hold all she had to give to this world and to the people around her. Violet and Gerald’s shared dedication and love for their children was what held priority. Together their love knew no bounds, and they celebrated every accomplishment and were a support in every challenge of their children. Violet was able to witness the evolution of her love~ now present in her beautiful grandchildren. She will rest peacefully knowing that her love was that which cultivated such compassionate hearts. Violet loved animals and nature, especially birds. She loved wild flowers and spent time in admiration of the tree that stood alone. Violet loved to read. Her adamant and passionate commitment to literature was a reflection of her adventurous spirit, and her desire to know more about the world and the people outside of her door. This commitment meant that her children were always read a bedtime story. Violet’s grandchildren were full benefactors of such curiosity and passion , as they also love to read and to learn about new people and places. All of Violet’s six grandchildren have bright futures ahead of them, and this was of significant pride to her. Later, upon her diagnosis of terminal cancer, this would be her greatest heartache as she would not live long enough to see them fulfill their dreams. Driven by her curiosity of history and that of her own family, Violet loved to explore and her examine her heritage and genealogy as a hobby. Violet championed so many causes and supported many important values; from action and compassion in poverty awareness, human rights advocacy in her workplace and otherwise, to animal rights and protection. Violet lead committees and volunteered for activities that supported her children and many others benefitted from her dedication. She always loved sports and championed its benefits. Violet would always support a special cause that was of importance to others. That Violet was able to ‘give’ to others will have been enough for her. However her legacy of caring and of love will be carried forward by many of those who knew her. Violet would say to you that is was so nice to have met you. She might tell you to be inspired by love~ the kind that sits a little lower than your heart. The love found in your tummy....the kind you might be afraid of because of its incredible force. She might advise you to let that special love shine in small increments of your day, by way of acts that enhance the lives of others...thus your own. Violet will be so missed. Everyday A Service of Celebration and Thanksgiving for the life of Violet Margaret Fitzpatrick will take place on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. from St. Matthews Anglican Church, St. Lawrence. Inurnment to take place at a later date. Violet’s family extends gratitude and a heartfelt thank you to the doctors, nurses and all medical staff at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre and at the US Memorial Hospital in St. Lawrence for your support and care of Violet. In lieu of flowers donations can be made, and are gratefully accepted, in Violet’s honour to primates World Relief Development Fund c/o St. Matthew’s Anglican Church, St. Lawrence, NL.
