He graduated Ottawa Normal School and taught throughout Ontario. Became ordained by the United Church of Canada in 1940, serving in Manitoba, Ontario and Newfoundland. He was minister of George St. United Church and subsequently teacher of religion under the United Church and Avalon Consolidated School Systems. He was a life long member of the Masonic Lodge and also a member of the Kiwanis Club of St. John`s. His retirement years were to be spent on a farm in St. Philips.
