    3. Transcribed Obituaries for Monday, August 11, 2003, courtesy of "The Telegram", St.John's, NL. MANNING, Clarence Thomas - Passed peacefully away at the Dr. G.B. Cross Memorial Hospital in Clarenville on August 8, 2003, Clarence Thomas Manning, in his 79th year. Left with fond and loving memories his wife Norma Manning, daughters Mrs. Janet Hammond of Calgary and Ms. Shirley Porter of Clarenville, sisters Ellen Mary of North Carolina, Pearl of New Hampshire, Rita of Montreal, Gail of Montreal, Marion of Lawn and Madeleine of Lawn, brothers Andrew of Marystown and James of Lawn and six grandchildren, Daniel, Kyle, Andre, Chantal, Rochelle and Dylan and a large number of relatives and friends. Remains will be resting at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Lawn. Funeral will be held 2 p.m., August 11, 2003 at the Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church with interment at the Old Lawn Cemetery in Lawn. In his memory, flowers accepted or a donation to the Memorial Fund to Children`s Cancer Research. August 11, 2003 RILEY, Helen (nee Hapgood) - Passed peacefully away at the Agnes Pratt Home on Saturday, August 9, 2003, Helen Riley in her 84th year. Left with fond and loving memories are her son Charles (Chuck) and wife Gail, two loving grandchildren Diane and Susan, her niece Helen Parsons and family, cousin Jean Whitten and family, her friend Phyllis Hapgood as well as other family and friends. Resting at Barrett`s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue from 7-9 p.m., Sunday and from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., Monday. Funeral service to take place 2 p.m., Tuesday, August 12, 2003 from Barrett`s Chapel. Interment to follow in the General Protestant Cemetery. August 11, 2003 SHEPPARD, Karl Oscar - WWII Veteran Service # 2971 Brig Bay, NL - It is with great sadness the family of Karl Oscar Sheppard announce his passing on August 9, 2003 at the Health Science Centre in St. John`s, NL at the age of 90 years. He will be sadly missed by three sons, Cyril of Port Saunders, Harris (Marie) of Labrador City, and Maurice (Diane) of St. John`s; five grandchildren, Colin, Olga (Trevor), Edna (Jeff), Todd (Roxanne) and Tracey (Bruce); seven great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Joelle, Patrick, Bobbie, Jamie, Derrick and Brooke; two sisters, Mary-Anne of Mianisburg, Ohio, USA and Sinnett of Cupids, NL, sisters-in-law Margaret, Hepsey and Jonnie of Brig Bay. He also leaves to mourn brothers and sisters-in-law Maurice and Margaret Telford; Charlie and Pearl Little and Jim Irving all of Rowanburn, Scotland and numerous other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his first wife Edna, his second wife Margaret; one son, Colin, seven brothers Thomas, Norman, Garfiel! d, Maxwell, Heber, Pierce and Wilfred and one sister Clarcey, two daughters-in-law, Betty and Minnie. He was a WWII Veteran who served his country in the Forestry Division in Scotland. He enlisted on July 26, 1940 and was discharged December 18, 1945. After the war he returned home to Brig Bay where he worked as a fisherman and logger. During his later years before retirement he worked as a bait depot operator for the Dept. of Fisheries and Oceans. His first priority was always to ensure he always had three years of firewood on hand. He loved to catch smelt, snare rabbits and pick berries but most loved pastime was to dance to his favorite waltzes. During the past few years he was a resident of the Hoyles Escasoni Home in St. John`s but his heart forever remained in Brig Bay. Visitations will take place on Monday, August 11 and on Tuesday, August 12 at the Church of the Advent in Plum Point. Funeral service will take place on Wednesday, August 13 at 11 a.m. at the Church of ! the Advent in Plum Point. Interment will follow at the Brig Bay Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, flowers graciously accepted or donations may be made to the Hoyle Escasoni Foundation or the Plum Point Church of the Advent Building Fund. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Fillatre`s Funeral Home, Corner Brook.The family graciously thanks the staff and residents of the Hoyles Escasoni Home and the medical staff in the emergency department of the Health Science Centre for all their care and attention. Lest we forget August 11, 2003 SPARKES, H. Clayton - Passed peacefully away in the presence of his family, on Sunday, August 10, 2003, H. Clayton Sparkes. Aged 81 years. Leaving to mourn his loving wife Joyce; children: Susan, Bruce (Audrey), Steve, Debbie, Judy (Scott) Giannou; grandchildren: Geoffrey, Dennis (Shelley) Eaton; Leslie, Adam and Allison Sparkes; Christopher and Kimberly Sparkes; Jack Giannou; brothers Graham (Jean), Tom (Mary), Reg (Violet), John (Mary); sister Anne Coddington; sisters-in-law Shirley Hillyer and Louie Sparkes; also a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; special caregiver Donna Eddy; special friend Andy Johnson. Cremation has taken place. Family will be receiving friends at Barrett`s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue, from 7-9 p.m. on Monday August 11, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday August 12. August 11, 2003 TIZZARD, Sarah Ann (Sally, 1929 - 2003) - Passed peacefully away at St. Patrick`s Mercy Home following a lengthy illness on August 8th, 2003, Sarah Ann Tizzard (nee Antle). Predeceased by her husband Eric in 1976. Leaving to mourn their loss but with many happy memories are five daughters: Jean Cooper (David), Barbara Tizzard, Gertrude Daniels (Ross), Donna Tizzard, Susan Myers (Patrick); two sons: William (Donna) and Kitchener (Rosemary); her six grandchildren: Andrea Woodland (Todd), Vanessa Badcock, Melissa and Jackie Tizzard, Michael Tizzard and Susan Daniels; one great-grandson: Matthew Woodland; four sisters: Doris Griffin, Julie Vokey, Valera Heath (Reginald) and Evelyn Bastow; her sister-in-law: Elizabeth Antle; her brother-in-law: Fred Tizzard; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
