The initial information that my Samuel MILLS was from Crewkerne was on Samuel's marriage record in the Methodist Church in Burin. The rest of the info re ancestors came from the microfilms available at the Family History Centers operated by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I knew the approximate birth date of my ancestor Samuel and found a lot of information in the IGI (International Genealogy Index). Each of these entries are "sourced" as to exactly where this information could be found so you can verify it for yourself. I found the microfilm number (#1526587) that appeared most often and ordered in the microfilm which was for the one of the parishes/churches for Crewkerne. Most films contain more than one churchs' records. I also ordered in other parish records for Crewkerne. A search in the "library catalogue" will give you the numbers of all microfilms pertaining to Crewkerne. I ended up eventually ordering all the parishes plus the Bishops Transcripts and recorded the info from all these sources. The early Crewkerne records are not filmed very well and impossible to read because of the tiny tiny font - the Bishops Transcripts did fill in a few blanks for these years. As I worked back-ward I verified all the information but reached a stumbling block with Samuel's mother, Her name was Mary GOSNEY. I had her death date so could calculate her approx year of birth. Problem was there were 2 Mary GOSNEY's born around the same time so I was stuck. I ordered in a film (#0825382) for the Bible Christian Church in Crewkerne and found more than I could ever hope for. This particular record stated Born Jul 29,1825 baptised Aug 25,1825 Elizabeth to William & Mary MILLS, daughter of James & Martha GOSNEY - a record with info on 3 generations!!!!! This Elizabeth was the sister to my Samuel born 1823 Why Elizabeth was baptised in the Bible Christian Church and all other children before Elizabeth and after Elizabeth were baptised in the Church of England Church I have no idea but it reminds us the check EACH record for the source rather then assume they would all be the same. From the IGI I also discovered that a first cousin to my Samuel named Harriet MILLS married a Samuel WEBB and they became members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints and eventually they immigrated to the US. Their descendants were also on the IGI and into the Family History file so I had more names but the genealogist in me I needed to verify these for myself. I joined one of the many lists from the US and put out a query on this family. This was in 1994 and computers were not as common as they are today. I had just about given up hope when I had a response. Two descendants of this US family answered my query - both were the managers of their respective Family History Centers. We shared info back & forth and also what we knew about the family. Because some of the information they had I did not have and vise versa we were able to get the MILLS line back several more generations.
