The CB obit page has been very sporatic of late >From Thursday July 3 Frederick (Fred) Bugden 87, Sydney Fred Bugden, 87, of Windsor Street, Sydney, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 2, 2003, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Trinity Bay, Nfld., he was a son of the late Joseph and Grace (Clark) Bugden. He graduated from Sydney Academy and was a member of the soccer team. Fred retired from Sydney Steel in 1966 as a welder, then in 1981 as a welding instructor at UCCB. He was a member of the United Protestant Church of Sydney River, life member of the Sydney Golden K and the Riverdale Seniors Club. Fred enjoyed music and took part in Rotary shows, and was a member of the Golden Cords. Some of his hobbies were fishing, golf and camping. In retirement he took up landscape painting. He is survived by his wife, Lillian (Doret) Bugden; one son, Gordon (Helena), Peterborough, Ont.; one daughter, Judith (Doug) Artz, Halifax; stepdaughter, Lynn (Greg) Stack, Hamilton. He will be sadly missed by his six grandchildren, Bruce and Andrew Bugden, Jennifer, Gregory Artz and Shane and Kelly Stack. He was predeceased by his first wife, Sadie Annesty in 1974, one sister, Anne Ryder;, two brothers, Wesley and Clarence. There will be no visitation at his request. A memorial service will be held in United Protestant Church, Sydney River, Friday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Ralph Johnston officiating. Interment in Hardwood Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church hall following the service. Memorials may be made to the dialysis unit at Cape Breton Regional Hospital, the Arthritis Society, the Multiple Sclerosis Society or charity of choice.
