He was a World War II veteran, a member of the 166th Royal Newfoundland Regiment and was treasurer of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 55, Plum Point until its closure in 2000, then becoming a member of Branch 17 in St. Anthony, NL. After 30 years with Bowater Newfoundland Ltd., he ran a successful business for many years and was an avid Toronto Blue Jay and Maple Leaf fan. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Surviving are his wife Judy (nee Samson), his sons John (Ivy) Gibbons, Plum Point, NL, Dwight (Beulah) Gibbons, Plum Point, NL and Abraham (Sherry) Gibbons, Rothsay, NB, his daughters Rose (Frank) Boyle, Riverview, NB and Genevieve (Rod) Caines, Goose Bay, NL, his grandchildren Janessa and David Boyle, SheriLee (Borje) and Jean Gibbons, Sarah & Andrew Caines and John Gibbons. The funeral service will be held at The Church of the Advent, Plum Point, NL on August 22, 2003 at 2:00 p.m., Rev. Woodman officiating. Interment to follow at Pond Cove Cemetery. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to K M Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony, NL, Wilfred Hutchings, Funeral Director.
