NL Nicknames......for Edward....and DAWE family tree... Many of us are aware of the nicknames used in NL records for persons with the christian name of Edward, for example Ed, Eddie, Ned, Ted and Teddy. I am wondering if anyone else has knowledge of or suspected that another nickname for Edward was simply Ward. All feedback on this subject is welcome. On a related topic, Yesterday I was given a copy of a 1976 compiled family tree of a Port de Grave, NL to Victoria, BC Dawe family line which originated with the birth of William Henry Dawe b. 1824 at Port de Grave. Before 1870 this Dawe line married into the surnames Butler, Farrell, Ralph, Mugford and Wells . The next generation married surnames Boone, Richards, Newell, Taylor, Wells, Snow and Andrews. For anyone connected to this tree, I would be pleased to answer questions relating to this record concerning persons born before 1900. I noted with interest at least two records where children carried, as a second christian name, the surname of their mother and elsewhere the unusual first names of Tryphena and Zipporah. Confirmation of the Dawe family connection to the Morgan family was given in a 1977 tape recorded interview with Mr. Dawe b.1885 of Country Road NL. Mr. Dawe also gave Morgan family information connected with the loss of the 'Excell' which occured just after the date of his birth in October 1885. ===== A three year hobby of researching Surnames (and variations) /ancestors, recorded in BNA before 1835.....*Batten *Beauchamp, *Beecham, *Bishop, Bucham, Buchan, Buchanan, Churchill, *Dawe, Fitzpatrick, *French, **Lamb, **Russell, *Roswell, Rowell, *Rousell, Snow, *Sparks, Tucker In-law surnames of interest include Earle, **Babcock, etc. (*Timeline Docs. on file for these surnames and a history of Bay Roberts CB and St. Mary's PB.
