CROTTY, James (Jim) Robert - Passed peacefully away at the palliative care unit on Friday, November 21, 2003, James Crotty, age 62 years. Leaving to mourn four special sisters: Joan Bishop, St. John`s, Patricia Horwood, St. John`s, Doris Crotty, St. John`s, and Maureen Noseworthy, Thornton, ON; two brothers: Francis Crotty, Oromocto, NB and Wayne Crotty, Newmarket ON; special friends Kevin Noseworthy and Ron Stevenson; also a large number of nieces, nephews and neighbourhood friends. Special thank-you to the staff at the palliative care unit and 4th and 5th floor of the Health Sciences Centre for their care and kindness. Cremation has taken place at Jim`s request. Visitation will take place at Carnell`s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Rd., from 7-10 p.m. Saturday, 2-4 p.m. and 7-10 p.m. Sunday. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 24, 2003 at 11 a.m. from the Carnell Memorial Chapel. Interment to follow in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. ³Rest in Peace² November 21, 2003 FLOOD, Wanda Noel (Hobbs) - 1955 - 2003. Wanda Noel Flood (Hobbs), 48, of Mount Pearl, died peacefully in the presence of family members in the Queen Elizabeth Health Sciences Centre, Halifax, on Friday, November 21, 2003. She was born in Shellbrook, Saskatchewan; the youngest daughter of Thomas and Mary (Noel) Hobbs. She was predeceased by her parents. Wanda was an exceptional wife to Anthony (Tony) and mother to Rebecca, Robyn and Scott. She leaves them with a wonderful legacy of love, compassion and caring. Wanda`s friends are many. She was a loving sister to Ruth (Tom) Donovan of Mount Pearl, Sharron (Ross) Pomeroy of Grand Falls Windsor and Gael (Phillip) Page of Halifax, and daughter-in-law of Ed and Joyce Flood of Grand Falls-Windsor. She is also survived by Ross (Wendy) Flood (St. John`s), Ed (Leanne) Flood (Corner Brook), Cindy (Bill) Healey (Grand Falls Windsor), Denise (Keith) Hayley of Grand Falls/Windsor, and 14 nieces and nephews and one great nephew. A service! of celebration of Wanda`s life will be held on Monday, Nov. 24 at 2 p.m. at St. Peter`s Parish in Mount Pearl. Visitation will be at Caul`s Funeral Home on LeMarchant Rd on Saturday, Nov. 22 from 7-9 p.m. and Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Family flowers only. November 21, 2003 GRANT, Clara Mary (nee Hawco) - Passed away peacefully on November 13, 2003 in the Palliative Care Unit of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Halifax. Originally from Mount Carmel, SMB, Newfoundland, Clara spent most of her life in Nova Scotia. She originally attended the Halifax School for the Blind as a child of five, and later returned to this province to settle with her husband and bring up two beautiful daughters. Leaving to mourn loving husband Gary, daughters Maureen (Grant-Novak) and Allison, as well as grandchildren Brooke, Courtney and Blayke. Clara was predeceased by her parents William and Annie Hawco, along with beloved granddaughter Haylie. She will be remembered fondly by loving family, including brother John (Lucy), Jimmy (Theresa), sisters Dot (Ben) and Katherine (Joe), along with many nieces and nephews. Clara was honoured to have a major network of friends all across Canada, most of which she kept in touch with regularly. It was Clara`s wish to donate her bod! y to science, with the recipient being Dalhousie University. November 21, 2003 HOLLOWAY, Graham (Papa) - Passed peacefully away November 17, 2003, in Hamilton, Ontario, surrounded by his entire family. Leaving the love of his life, wife Jane and their children Ken, Doreen, Laurie, Tammy and Tom and step-children. Predeceased by son Bob. Lots of loving memories for his thirty-one grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, including Nancy Day of St. John`s and her daughters Summer and Emma. Graham grew up in St. John`s and loved this province passionately, even though spending over half his life in Ontario. We will miss his smile and zany sense of humor always. November 21, 2003 LEWIS, Dorothy - Passed peacefully away in the presence of family and friends at St. Clare`s Mercy Hospital on Friday, November 21, 2003, Dorothy Lewis in her 82nd year. Leaving to mourn with loving memories daughters: Jean (Jim), Joyce (George), Pauline (Dave), Betty (Pat) and son Gerald; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brother Jack and sister Louise; as well as other relatives and friends. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at Barrett`s Funeral Home Chapel, 328 Hamilton Avenue at 2 p.m. on Monday, November 24, 2003. Interment will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. November 21, 2003 MASSE, Berard - Tecumseh Michigan, Bernard Masse, 71, of Tecumseh, formerly of Nashua, New Hampshire, passed away August 16, 2003, at the University of Michigan Medical Center, Ann Arbor. He was born March 23, 1932, in Belcourt, North Dakota, the only child of Napoleon and Simone (Lariviere) Masse. In 1955, he married Catherine E. Kelly of St. John`s, Newfoundland. He earned his bachelor`s and master`s degrees from North Dakota State University and a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan. Dr. Masse began his career as a teacher in Comstock, Minnesota in 1953, then entered the United States Air Force and was stationed at Pepperrell Air Force Base in St. John`s. Upon leaving the air force, he began teaching at Cantrick Junior High School in Monroe, Michigan. He served as elementary/junior high principal in Hudson, Michigan and was named principal of Munster High School, Munster, Indiana (1964-67). He became Assistant Superintendent of Schools in Fairfield, Connecticut (1969-73! ). He was named Superintendent of Schools in Nashua, New Hampshire, in 1973 and served the district for 22 years, retiring in 1995. In 1991, Dr. Masse was named New Hampshire`s State Superintendent of the Year. In 1995, he was named Citizen of the Year by the Greater Nashua Chamber of Commerce. Also in 1995, the Nashua Board of Education honored him by naming the central office the ³Berard Masse School Administration Building.² In 2002 he received the Humanitarian Award from the Nashua Charitible Trust Foundation. He was a radio show host on Nashua`s WMVU`s ³Spotlight on Education² (1993-96). After retirement, he worked as a part-time educational consultant. He has served on numerous boards and committees during his professional career. In addition to his wife, Catherine ³Kay², he is survived by his son Paul of Eagle Lake, Maine; and daughter, Nicole (John) McLean of Colorado, and four grandchildren: Shannon, Ryan, Lori and Kevin McLean. He was preceded in death by his paren! ts. November 21, 2003 MCCLURE, Genevieve Frances (Gen - nee Howlett)- Passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 13, 2003, at Ulster Hospital, Northern Ireland, age 72 years. Predeceased by her husband Lew, February 25, 1989; her parents: Mary and Greg Howlett; sister Vera. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories two daughters: Sharon Maher (Paul), Goulds; Carrie Ann Marshall (Andrew), Goulds; three sons: Roger (Shirley), Amherst, NS; Jim (Gloria), Goulds; Robert (Claire), Bangor, Northern Ireland; ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild; one sister: Mary Edwards (John), Oshawa, ON; two brothers: Bill Frizzell (Peg), Goulds; Harold (Shirley), St. John`s; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends both at home and abroad. Funeral took place at Bangor, Northern Ireland, on November 17, 2003. God saw her getting weary and cure was not to be, He put His arms around her and whispered come to Me. November 21, 2003 MOSEY (nee Woolfrey), Elizabeth (Bette) - Died peacefully on 17 November at her home near Miami, Florida, Bette (Woolfrey) Mosey after a year`s affliction with cancer. Born in St. John`s on 1 September 1935, she was the youngest child of the late Rev. W.J. and Mrs. Woolfrey. Left to mourn in Florida are daughters: Cynthia, Bonnie, and Linda; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Left to mourn also are sisters: Marion (David) Pitt, St. John`s, and Margaret (John) Hall, Qualicum Beach, B.C., and brother Jack (Joyce) Woolfrey, Waterloo; niece Ruth (Pitt) Francis and nephew Robert D. Pitt, St. John`s; many other relatives and many friends. A nurse by profession, she had willed her body to medical science. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, 23 November, in the United Methodist Church, Plantation, Florida. November 21, 2003 MURPHY, John Thomas - February 9, 1955 - November 16, 2003. Passed peacefully away at Ottawa General Hospital on Sunday, November 16, 2003, the Reverend John Thomas Murphy of Musgravetown, Newfoundland. Leaving to mourn with cherished and loving memories, son Ryan at Mount Allison University, Sackville, NB; daughter Erin at L.B. Pearson United World College, Victoria, BC; parents, Stephen and Isabel Murphy, Ottawa; brother Douglas (Marie Kusters); nieces: Christine and Julie; nephew, Stephane, Ottawa; aunt Mary Murphy, Ottawa; aunt and uncle, Ruth and Donald Parr, Guelph. John will also be sadly missed by family and friends across the country and by his Newfoundland family, Phyllis Philpott, Musgravetown; Marion and Jim Reader, Bloomfield; Lori Murphy, Lethbridge; and Lois, Jim, Valerie and Heather Flynn, Gander. He has touched the lives of many and his passing will be mourned by hs many friends and neighbours, especially his congregation of Heritage United Church. November 21, 2003 NEARY, Norman Alexander - Passed peacefully away at the Hoyles-Escasoni Complex on Friday, November 21, 2003, Norman Alexander Neary, age 83 years. Leaving to mourn his loving wife Catherine (nee Murray); four daughters: Nancy, Peggy (Robert Deane), Norma (Darren Hanlon), Catherine (Larry Parker); step-son Joseph Murray (Eileen McDonald); brothers: Patrick (Maureen), Harry (Audrey); sister Alice Neary; four grandchildren: Bryan Tulk, Laura, Andrea, Richard Deane; special sister-in-law Elizabeth Galway; and a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
