    3. This is my reply to those listers who requested information on the Royal / Ryall Surname: general response.... "A few weeks ago someone wrote and asked me if I had found any information on the subject surname. Unfortunately, parts my filing system is 'out of control' at this moment, and I have misplaced the email. I have had leanings for some time that my Rosewell/Roswell ancestors came from New England to Newfoundland and have been looking in that direction. On October 21st, 2001 I downloaded 8 pages of info from the internet under this subject: "A Genealogical Dictionary of the First Settlers of New England, before 1692, Volume #3...Ross-Ruel by James Savage. At that time I could see no obvious family connections. This paper has been tucked away until yesterday. Unfortunately I was unsuccessful in my attempts to return to the website link below on June 2, 2002 and again on Nov. 5, 2003. Savage New England Register, Volume 3, Ross-Ruel http://www.usgenet.org/usa/vt/state/savage/bk3/ross-ruel.htm perhaps you will have better luck. There is almost a page of interesting information on Royal, or Ryall, under the following Christian names: Isaac, Ruth, Jemima, Sarah, Elizabeth, Robert, John, Thomas, Samuel, William etc. and in-law connections to Dodd, Tyler, Cole, Endicott, Gorges (George?) and Stevens. Please let me know if you are able to access the website, if not I could transcribe the information." In response to my earlier posting, here are excerpts from emails requesting more information on the subject surname. #1.."My ROYAL/RYALLs are mostly from the Job's cove area." #2.. "I am most , absolutely interested in those surnames!!!...have you got something on the go that I don't know about??...Loyalist name?!..Royal/Ryall!?" #3.."I've traced the family (Ryall, Royal, Royle, Rahill, Rial etc ) coming here as early as 1706. They would come in the summer to fish, and return to England in he Fall. England would not allow them to settle until the early 1800's.." ((lghr comment...important to remember that families from New England also engaged in the summer migratory fishery at 'the big island' and 'the Labrador')) #4.."...... was a Riles from the southcoast of Newfoundland. The surname has changed spelling many times in that family but I have been able to trace the family back to Charles Ryall born about 1820. Unfortunately I have not been able to determine where he was born. He married Sarah Hutchings in Harbour Breton around 1840." __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
