Here's something that may be of interest. It is a transcript from Thomas Peyton's Diary at the Provincial Archives of Newfoundland and Labrador, St. John's (ref: P5/25 Box 1). I understand that Mr. Peyton was the son of John Peyton, Magistrate at Twillingate. It was not clear exactly when this entry was made but it does contain some good information for family history reseachers: The first settlers at Exploits Burnt Island was Manuels from Gersey Seiviours and Budgel from England. First at Fortune Harbour John Dalton, Valantine Mahaney & Perry. after a few years residence they removed from Fortune Harbour and settled at Exploits Burnt Island about the year 1812. James Wells an Englishman first settler at Leading Tickels on what is now called Rowsels Island. he afterward removed to Exploits Burnt Island Mary March, Red Indian Woman was taken by John Peyton at Lake Batust or Red Indian Pond on the 5th day of March 1819. ______ Bill Goulding St. John's, Newfoundland ----- Original Message ----- From: <larc1963@rogers.com> To: <NFLD-LAB-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, November 15, 2003 10:41 PM Subject: [NFLD-LAB] Fw: Roll Call Dalton 1803 Exploits > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "jr/carol" <ramjam@sprint.ca> > To: <larc1963@rogers.com> > Sent: Saturday, November 15, 2003 9:25 PM > Subject: Roll Call Dalton 1803 Exploits > > > > Hello Fellow Searhers, > > I am looking for descendants of : > > Matthew Dalton b.\ 1803 Exploits, NDB > > and his first wife Elizabeth Unknown > > Some of the children are : > > Priscilla Dalton b. 1839 m.
